    Tempest TAF-L oil filter on C90

    Just got Tempest TAF-L filter to put on C90-12F on 1957 PA18. Finally have gotten tired of pulling screen at every annual. Went to just bolt up and surprise cylinder baffle in way so needs to be modified. Has anyone else had to do this and if so any pictures to see what it should kinda look like. I have been searching the form and see number of people put them on different aircraft but no real info on doing it or issues they ran into to complete the install. I will add pictures when get back working on it in couple hours.

    Yes it says remove nuts on studs remove cover put oil filter housing on studs replace nuts add filter be happy. Getting ready to post pics. The bracket will work it is just the #2 cylinder baffling is in the way needs to be cut out and modified. Just hoping others had done it and had pictures to see how much needed to be removed.

    its like steve pierce always says, you fix one problem and create 3 more. nothing wrong with a oil filter but i dont really feel the screens are a problem either. a square end 1 1/16 3/8ths drive socket home made and the right flare wrenches really help. but this isnt solving your baffle problem.

    Yep that is for sure 3 more definitely come up Murphy’s law at it’s best. Just wanted the extra protection of filter and ease of changing it in winter in unsheathed hangar.

    You will need to modify the baffle. It's a bit of work, but not too bad. I can only find one poor picture right now, so I'll try to take some more later today.

    Looks like a few gentle taps with a ball pein hammer will do the trick.

    Thanks for the photos that helps a lot and makes sense. I see what you mean not hard but definitely the baffling has to be removed no problem not difficult just takes a little time.

    That use to be the F&M oil filter adapter. I did similar to what fancypants did on the 90 hp Super Cub I use to maintain.
