In past years the meeting up place for Thursday was Island Bobs for lunch and then hit some strips on the way to the WAD. Do you guys want me to see if Bob wants to do Thursday lunch?

    I'm finally seeing the light...

Can't think of a better place to let the cat out of the bag than here...
Late October I'm taking possession of an American Super Legend HD/XP kit. It is in the final stage of being put together in Texas. It will have an IO370 with a hartzell trailblazer constant speed prop and quite a few other options. Yes it will have seaplane fittings attached at the factory but no plans to put it on floats just yet. Extended fuel tanks and VG's and external access to the baggage area.

    Hi All,
The single digit countdown has begun.....7 days until arrivals begin at the WAD. Jen placed the meal order last night with Smoking Bear Barbecue. Jen's Coffee cups are here, Heather has the shirts under control and I just saw a package from Maine with the WAD Girl Hangar Posters arrive. We are into position and holding.....

Flew over to Maine last Sunday for an award lunch for a great Maine Aviator Tim Hodgkins. Tim worked with me and tested me for my float plane rating. 50 Years of flying locally. The foilage was really starting to change and shy of peak. I think we may have it this year. A real corker of color.

So of course now we look at the long range 10 day weather which we all know is the very bet computerized guess. According to the long range it appears Friday may be the better of the two days. Myself and Pete Brown have been laying out some flyout courses and we think for Maine this year we will choose Wiscasset KIWI. I will rent a van and we will travel off airport to a great seafood restaurant The Taste O Maine which is highly recommended by Jim Crane. Not to mention the owner is a pilot. KIWI has fuel as well so it will serve as a great stop. The Friday trip will be our Maine coast as well as get a great view of the foliage coming home. I will impose on Capt. Cub to bring us south for Donuts and his tour of southern New Hampshire than up the coast into Maine. We will return home through Crawford Notch via a few stops along the way.

Now Saturday shows rain but that is 10 days from now and it may be better to stay in New Hampshire and Vermont. We will use Basin Harbor in Vermont as our lunch stop.

After a recent GAMA/RAF event I noticed that most folks use Foreflight so I am working with Pete to have an airdrop or flight plan prepared electronically as well as copies in paper format.

There are places in Both Maine and New Hampshire that will provide more challenging off airport landing areas and while we will not plot these nor do we ever recommend that you risk life and limb as well as bend your airplane we can Hangar Fly these locations.

So I will post more this week to let you know what is going on....maybe a few pictures will help.

We have a go for ignition let the countdown begin......JM

So we have the restaurant on Friday in Maine. Our tentative flyout for the coast is Friday looking at long range weather. Our mid lunch spot is KIWI Wiscasset, I have chosen the Montsweag Farm Restaurant as it is a few minutes drive from the airport to make shuttling easier as well as them being able to accommodate our group. To do so here are a few menu items that they would offer our group. I have asked for a Lobster Roll Choice as well.
Spouses as well as any airline pilots have a full choice of alcohol available

I’ve spoke with Chef today and we came up with a luncheonmenu that I’d like to run by you:
Crock of French onion soup $8
New England clam chowder cup $6/bowl $8
Montsweag Burger with French Fries $12 (upgrade to onioncrisps for $2) Chicken Salad Sandwich with French Fries $12 (upgrade to onioncrisps for $2) Baked Haddock with Rice and seasonal vegetables $22 SquareRigger Rib Eye Steak with seasonal vegetables and Yukon Mashed Potatoes $28

Saturday should be our normal Lunch at Basin Harbor. I will get that menu and call them next.

Last time I was in Wiscasset was in a C-170 with an 80mph crosswind. Looking forward to a re-match!

That was many students back...Now an 80 MPH is a mere distraction.

    Hey Folks,
The count of people for Thursday night is at a level where we cannot transport folks timely. We also had issues in the past that local restaurants cannot handle 35-40 people walking through the door as well. Our intent is to have Chicken, Ribs and some Pizzas as well as Potato and macaroni salads along with Mixed Green salads for Thursday night. We can all chip in against the cost. I will grille up the ribs and chicken at the hangar.

Do we have any vegetarians in the group? I can ensure we have veggie burgers and so you know the crock pot chili is vegetarian with the meat being crumbles. I can always run the flattop for eggs and anything else to help your diet.

We also do Breakfast in the hangar and if the weather permits we have a few places at a short flight that are eggscellent.

    Regards
    John

Friday night is Burgers, Dogs, Macaroni, Potato Chili and other crock pot items.

Island Bob has already drained down the outhouse and will not be a stopping point this year on Thursday. Good chance we will see him on Saturday at Basin Harbor.
An alternate for Lunch on Thursday could be Keene New Hampshire. The Flight Deck Restaurant is great. So please let me know if this is where we should all meet up. It is open all afternoon.

Thursday Lunch Invite to Pilots enroute to WAD at KVSF, Springfield Vermont

Since Island Bob’s is in winter hibernation, I would like to welcome you all to my home field KVSF. Just a short hop to Wentworth. Big runways with a lots of grass along the pavement to play.

I’ll have lunch for everyone (sandwiches, apples, chips, water). Fuel available at the field $5.05, (neighboring Claremont Airport $4.3. My Hangar is in the west side with a yellow J-3 out front.

Stop by on Thursday, October 10th.

Bill, I saw Claremont fuel price the other day, but I’ve never had reason to stop and I wasn’t sure that was correct. So they are open and so have fuel 24/7?

If you come to KVSF, Springfield Hartness State Airport on Thursday....

The grass on the east side of 5/23 is very landable.
The grass south of 29/11 is also fine (one runway light at the crossing runway)

As always, use at your own risk.

I’ll see some of you Thursday for lunch in the terminal building.

    Good flights, Bill
