    Bowman Fields 33rd Annual Fly-in August 24th and 25th

Now that we have Maine Bushwhackers Make a Wish fly in behind us (and I must say that was an awesome event) it is time to look forward to Bowman Fields fly in. This year we are adding a STOL Competition/Demonstration. From what I am told,,, the young MR Crane in the Citrabria is the guy to beat. We will see if the elder Crane can keep up.

You don't want to miss this one!!

We flew our 180 last year, along with our neighbor with their Bonanza, from NC to Presque Isle and back. I stumbled across this fly-in by chance and we decided to camp there one night on our way North.

Fantastic little spot. Had a great time and enjoyed the hospitality. Neighbor won furthest traveled but only because he lives 100 feet further south than us..... lol..

Would love to go back someday. Hope you guys post up some pictures from this year's event.

Well I can tell you that he and the Citabria disappear after work every day. You must have some secret practicing around somewhere. What he doesnít know is Iíve been putting the tweak to mine as well as well. Iíve heard thru the jungle drums there are some heavy hitters coming to bowman. This could turn into a big deal. Iíve got work and to do now

Reid you are welcome to the front seat of my CarbonCub anytime. I’m pretty sure you would show the rest of us how it’s done. I remember that being the case up to Greenville on floats

The FAA has taken interest in our fly in this year. We have been warned that we can not do a candy drop from our plane like we have done for the last 33 years without an incident. We have even had the FAA on our field for a few of those drops and they were please with the crowd control and airspace management. I am sure this is due to an incident that happened recently in the area during a candy drop. Hopefully this does not also effect our STOL demonstration. We will have crowd control and specific rules to follow that will be gone over during the pilots meeting for the stol demo. We are hoping that this is not the beginning of the end of Bowman's fly in.

@&$!%!! Wasnít the plane crash related to the candy drop simply _enroute_ to the drop? It was completely unrelated to the candy drop whatsoever.
I canít stand the BS in the world today.

All I can say is WOW!!! What a great fly-in this year. I apologize for not having a lot of time to stop and talk with all my friends who showed up, we don't have much down time during the day.

I need to thank John Mead and Bill Brine for showing up with a flight of about 20, it was truly awesome seeing the Caravan on amphibs land at Bowman.

Peter Brown and JB for helping out with the STOL contest. Peter kept the competitors in line and moving through fast. JB helped out with announcing duties.

The Pilots who competed in the STOL.

John H, in the Denali Cub took home the trophy with a combined score 236ft. (The trophy is in the mail )
Bill B, in his Supercub 266ft combined score.
Tom F, In his Supercub 281ft combined score.
Andy C, in his Citabria 326ft combined score.
Jim C, in his Carbon Cub 336ft combined score.
Ryan T, in his Experimental Supercub 389ft combined score.
Bob G, in his Maule 430ft combined score.
Jake P, In his 180 was the talk of the airfield with a combined score of 445.

This was our first STOL event at Bowman and it was a huge hit with the fans an pilots. Special thanks go out to Jim Crane for recommending and promoting this event.
We learned a lot from our first STOL and will be adding a few changes to next years event. But most importantly we will keep it fun.

We had close to 130 planes fly in over the two day event with over 90 on the field at one time.

I did not have time to take any pictures so please post some here if anyone has some to share.

As always thanks to all who helped out that I may have missed.

    Larry.
