So in the process of building new cowling on a Super Cub with a Sutton exhaust and the Thrustline modification we decide to buy a new 12355-5 nose bowl without any cut outs. Fit great, no need for the front oil cooler scoop nor the starter hole since we are using a rear mounted cooler an a SkyTec NL starter. Well then I find out about this starter that saves 2.9 lbs and has been giving good service to several of my Super Cub friends. Had someone in need of the NL starter, installed the new XLT starter all was good. Wrong. When I removed the new nose bowl I noticed a little dimple where the nose of the new starter hit. The XLT starter has a nose bushing support where the NL does not. Every change effects 2-3 other things. So I took a 3" hole saw and cut a hole in a 2x6, sanded the edges and made a fixture to bump a dimple in the new nose bowl. Some hammer work on the fixture, then on a shot bag and finished out with a few different slappers and we now have good clearance. Adapt and overcome.
