New Nose Bowl w/ No Holes

Steve Pierce

BENEFACTOR
Graham, TX
So in the process of building new cowling on a Super Cub with a Sutton exhaust and the Thrustline modification we decide to buy a new 12355-5 nose bowl without any cut outs. Fit great, no need for the front oil cooler scoop nor the starter hole since we are using a rear mounted cooler an a SkyTec NL starter. Well then I find out about this starter that saves 2.9 lbs and has been giving good service to several of my Super Cub friends. Had someone in need of the NL starter, installed the new XLT starter all was good. Wrong. When I removed the new nose bowl I noticed a little dimple where the nose of the new starter hit. The XLT starter has a nose bushing support where the NL does not. Every change effects 2-3 other things. So I took a 3" hole saw and cut a hole in a 2x6, sanded the edges and made a fixture to bump a dimple in the new nose bowl. Some hammer work on the fixture, then on a shot bag and finished out with a few different slappers and we now have good clearance. Adapt and overcome.

thats so funny, I had the same issues, but instead of using all those tools and sand and stuff, I now just have a dent in my new nose bowl that is starting to flake a bit. Steve you are a true professional I enjoy reading. Thanks for showing off

sweet!

I woulda used a router with a round over bit instead of a sander. SMILE

It would'a wore itself it eventually. I don't see what the big deal is. Given time, most interference items will self-clearance....

Jason didn't like the bump so I made a doubler out of some .125" think aluminum, formed it to the nose bowl and riveted it in and formed a hole around it. Now it looks stock.

Hell, I liked the bump. Reminded me of my high school girlfriend. I’d have you Fedex it to me but no telling if it would ever make it here.

I thought you paid good money to have those recreated? This one got smashed flat with a body hammer.

The Pstol flaps will draw some attention, from a limited audience;
A set of 350CC " Lady Bumps" will
draw major attention worldwide to a massive part of the population ( both genders!) and likely get you into some
places that Pstol flaps just wont!
