They are a cool plane. And the 75th anniversary flight over to Normandy has excited a lot of people. Millions are expected to be there next month.

Lots excitement in Montana too from more than just aviation-minded folks. Our Miss Montana is going over. She was here at our airport Tuesday of this week with 7 jumpers that needed to qualify from a Dak prior to the Normandy jump. She was supposed to leave Missoula yesterday but had a delay. Now we have a lot of weather.

That is going to be quite an adventure flying a group of DC-3s across the pond. I've done it many times in a jet and remember being very bored wondering when I was going to get to the other side. In a DC-3 it will seem like forever. Good luck and thanks for your efforts in remembrance of that historic time.

Even just the fuel stops in Greenland and Iceland are overnight ordeals waiting for the fuel trucks to get everyone serviced. It's not like large loads of gasoline are commonly sold there.

I see where Brandon and Clu got there yesterday in the D-Day veteran Brandon has been working on for the last year. Clu's son Baron (12 years old) is going with them. What an adventure. I can't wait to hear the stories.

Miss Montana is going to Normandy.

If I remember correctly, they had a sponsor in Wichita to visit. The owners of these Dak’s are funding all of their own expenses.

For anyone one familiar with smoke jumper history, this is the plane that dropped the jumpers over Mann Gulch in 1949.

I have been in touch with Clu this evening and it looks like the cylinder they changed out on Friday held together. They made it to Iceland this afternoon.

Got one of Baron taking a break from his FO duties. Pretty sure the paratroopers didn't have it quite as good when it came to inflight services

Old Crow stopped by last week before going across the pond. Had a small oil leak in a line for the flap actuator above the right gear that had to be taken care of before he long over water adventure. Ray Fowler flew it in to the shop across from mine. Was here only about 4 hours but is probly the only P51 to ever roll down "Tailwheel Alley" at CCO! He and Max Hodges got it back ready to go, they are the ones that flew the XP 82 down to Lakeland. What a piece of history!

DC3 went by just north of Ingomar headed to Miles City at Tree Top level ( well if there were trees) yesterday. Anyone know which one that one is. ?
I may be wrong but that probably won't stop me from arguing about it.

Not quite on topic, but a month or two ago I watched a pretty good hour-long documentary on tv about the DC3.
I think it was on either the discovery channel or the Smithsonian channel.
    Maybe this one:

Brian last Sunday Miss Montana went by here, we buzzed in and took the tour,,,,what a neat way too represent Montana in Normandy. Look up the Mann Gulch fire, 16 jumpers went out the door of her and 13 died in 1949.

I’ve been watching the DC-3s/C47s landing today at Duxford England. It seems from discussion the group of eight flying together have made the crossing.

Duxford was busy with the B-17, P-51 and P-47 Flying formation after over flying the American cemetery near Cambridge. Many beautiful fly-bys with this group. Plus a PBY and Me-109 tearing up the skies. An amazing place to be on this Memorial Day, very sobering.

I expect some lively talk at the Eagle Pub tonight very sobering or not?

Thinking on your evening there, That was probably as lively as that pup has been in some 70 odd years.
In some way the media could well be collecting some great story material leading up the the 75th.
