Big Tires and Campfires Raffle - 2019

    Announcement

The annual Big Tires and Campfires Big Raffle will be held on Saturday, June 15, roughly 10 a.m. at Big Creek Lodge on the Big Creek airstrip.

For many of you, here is the most important item: once again, Airframes Alaska is donating a set of tires, winners choice of Ultralights, Airstreaks, or Bushwheels (other than 35s). We are hugely grateful for Airframes' continuing support. More information about Alaska Airframes tires is here: https://www.airframesalaska.com/Alas...eels_a/263.htm

It is likely that breakfast will be served on Saturday morning as well. Check back for confirmation.

Here's the link to purchase raffle tickets: https://idahoaviationfoundation.org/jcraffle/

We plan to sell tickets at Johnson Creek and other aviation events as well (e.g. Idaho Aviation Expo in May).

Background and Big News for Big Creek

The raffle is sponsored by the Idaho Aviation Foundation (IAF), a non-profit organization. All of the net raffle proceeds are distributed to organizations that preserve, protect, and maintain backcountry aviation, including the IAF and RAF. In 2017, net proceeds were over $11,000. In 2018, net proceeds were over $14,000. I'll post details separately.

As always, the Big Raffle will be held in concert with the informal, non-hosted Big Tires and Campfires Fly-in at Johnson Creek airstrip. But remember: the raffle will be held at Big Creek Lodge, on the Big Creek Airstrip. We recognize that this may be inconvenient for some of you. On the other hand, it is a great destination for breakfast and will give you a chance to see the lodge you helped build.

As most of you know, the purpose of the Fly-in is fun, camaraderie, checking out new products and equipment, and enjoying the remarkable Idaho backcountry airstrip system. The Fly-in has been held in June every year since 2005 and is on many pilot’s bucket list.

Now the Big News: Big Creek Lodge re-opened in August 2018, after a five-year rebuilding effort by the IAF and roughly $1.5M in outlays and donated materials. The results are stunning:

The lodge was built to serve the public, and in particular fly-in public, and the most of the money came from pilots. SuperCub.org members together made huge contributions for which we are very thankful.

Alas, the IAF is still raising money to cover initial operating costs; thus fundraisers like the Big Raffle.

Again, here's the link to purchase raffle tickets: https://idahoaviationfoundation.org/jcraffle/

    Donation results for 2018

Donation results for 2018 - where your dollars are going.

    • $9800 to IAF to help rebuild the Big Creek Lodge in Idaho.
    • $1,500 to the Idaho Aviation Association.
    • $1,500 to the Recreational Aviation Foundation, a non-profit organization which preserves, maintains and creates backcountry and recreational aviation airstrips across the nation.

    To recap the above:

Airframes Alaska has generously donated a set of tires again this year, but not limited to just Bushweels! The big prize winner can select from Ultralights, Airstreaks, or Bushwheels up to 31” (but excluding 35”). Shipping within the U.S. is included.

Airframes Alaska and, earlier, Alaska Bushweels, have been long time sponsors of the Fly-in. We're grateful for their support again this year.

Wow, hats off to Airframes once again- and they know how to through a party.

Will get my tickets there... do I have to be present to win? How big is 'Big Creek' airstrip?

You do not have be present to win the Bushwheels or "major prizes": those over $500.

If you tried and were unable to buy tickets using the link, the problem* has been fixed (on the IAF server), but our very own web guru, the other Steve Johnson.

    So, please try again!

Just a note about process: If you buy raffle tickets online, physical tickets will be created for you and put in the drawing, just as if you bought in person. Online sales will be terminated a couple of days before the raffle so that we can create the tickets.

Given the logistics of attempting physical sales at separate events at Johnson Creek and Big Creek, we really appreciate online purchases this year.

I was wondering about the crinkled tickets too. But in years past, Windy has always put some special stickum on my tickets to make sure they stuck to the drawing hat, not the drawERS hand. Pretty sure it was yellow pine tree gum. I think she used to be a baseball pitcher....

This is cool: Pacific Coast Avionics has released their own ANR headset, which can be yours, as they've donated a set to the raffle. If you fly a Cub and don't already have an ANR headset, you really need one.

We've extended the online sales until Wednesday evening. Still you only have a few hours left.

Don't be left out, say, by bad weather. Buy online today: https://idahoaviationfoundation.org/jcraffle/

I hope to be on site at Johnson Creek on Friday to sell tickets, depending on weather. You can also buy tickets any time at the Big Creek Lodge.

The IAF, with support from Aviator Supply, is donating a Garmin inReach SE.

A satellite tracker is an essential safety gear for the backcountry, and confirms your safe arrive with your loved ones, when radios and phones aren't available. And, you can send text messages.

The IAF, with support from Cordova Coolers, is donating a cooler this year.

These coolers have a unique look and style, along with the ability to keep ice as long or longer than any other cooler in the industry. And, they're based in Nampa, Idaho, starting up there in 2015. We're happy to welcome Cordova Coolers as a Big Tires and Campfires sponsor.

If you need a cooler, and happen to win one of the other prizes, consider Cordova and support an Idaho company.

We extended online ticket sales to midnight ET, Wednesday, June 12. Yes, this is the last day for online sales!

I hope to be at JC on Friday to sell tickets, and tickets are available at Big Creek Lodge.

I'll send out the ticket numbers after tonight, probably early Thursday morning.

It would be easier for you guys to sell those of us that can not attend if we had a chance to win everything valued over 100 or 50 or ? If I read the rules right my 100$ only has a chance to win prizes over 500.00 even though my 5 tickets cost the same as those who are not strapped to a spray plane this time of year,,,,bummer,,,just saying and I already bought my tickets
