advice working with oratex

dose and one have a good way to install the reinforcing former around the lift strut fittings when using oratex

I've not worked with oratex so this is just an opinion. Ask yourself "What is the purpose of the reinforcing former?". Originally they were there to reinforce grade A or Irish linen fabric from tearing away and curling up as they aged. Will your oratex weaken and tear with age? Isn't one of it's advantages to be "lifetime"? I would just cut a piece of oratex in the shape desired and glue it down around the fittings doubling the material thickness in that area. You could turn it so that the fibers crisscross for extra strength.

It's probably overkill but here is what I did. I bought the standard plastic grommets and trimmed/filed them to fit. Then I glued and wraped them in Oratex (mostly for color match) and installed/glued to the outside. Sorry for the crummy picture. I had to zoom in tight to get it. I'll try to get out to my shop this weekend for a better picture. Skywagon8a may be onto something here. The Oratex material is pretty tough and tear resistant.

Thanks Bob. No paint necessary on Oratex but it can be painted and I will for some trim.
