I've never been to JC but as a general rule when taking off behind another plane, if there is no wind stay to the left of the first plane's path. The prop wash moves that plane's air mass to the right. If there is any cross wind, stay to the upwind side of the other plane's path.

Edit: Also if possible stay above the preceding plane's path. This is true both on arrivals and departures. The disturbed air mass settles towards the ground. This is clearly noted if you ever follow another airplane approaching a runway while passing over water. The surface of the water becomes disturbed where the down flow makes contact. This is also a good indication of the direction from which the wind is blowing. You will easily be able to observe that the air is flowing from the right or left since the disturbance will be to the right or left of the preceding airplane's path.

If I can find hangar space the Husky may stay in Bozeman for a while.

Sounds like jc is becoming popular. Be million dollar cabins lined up along a 10,000' paved runway there before long. If you want a challenge try finding the S82 strip near my in-laws now. Better have floats!

Folks, just an update regarding BTAC week. I hope to have registration, etc, open by around May 1. We are working out some details that are taking a little longer than I had thought.

I think that we are going to see a significantly shorter growing (camping) season this year due to the onslaught of the Eddy Minimum....this wont really get much better until 2024. Thus, MB, and JC, being early in the season could well be a mess, while the Wisconsin thing would be better timed. I can’t remember what the vertical axis difference between the curves represents, call it “shortness of the camping season at higher latitudes” for convenience. I’ll have to go back to the Adapt 2030 YouTube channel and find it again......

OK, the curves on the chart are magnetic cycles of the sun, recently discovered, as they vary with respect to each other, cause solar cycles, which occasionally result in sunspot minimums like the Maunder Minimum, the Dalton minimum, and now the Eddy minimum.

Since there is no official BTCF Flyin this year, I got a room at Big Creek Lodge/Cabin for mid-week through the weekend of what would have been the flyin-raffle. It appears now I won't make that and the room is available if any of you want to call The Big Creek Lodge. They were great about my cancellation and friendly to work with. Get these rooms before they disappear. It is a very popular week there. Ralph

Hey Steve, we are sorry to hear about the Johnson Creek Fly-in not working out this year. We will make sure to have plenty of food at The Corner and will leave a vehicle at the airstrip for you all to use. If there is interest we can arrange to deliver food out there as we have done in the past, smoked brisket and our sweet bourbon sauce, tri-tip, ribs etc. Or just come into town and say hi!

In years past it has been about 18-20 per person, depends on what you want on the menu. Give me a call at 208-633-3325 if the interest is there and we can work out the details

When flying to the various Big Tire fly-ins this week and next, be aware that the BOI weather radar is out of service, and will likely stay down until mid-June.
