2019 - Great Alaska Aviation Gathering (Trade Show)

    Folks

Time to get this thread started. One of my favorite gatherings and a great way to start the season.

May 4 and 5 (Sat and Sun) 2019

    Link to their website....https://www.greatalaskaaviationgathering.org

Who is going? Lord willing I will be there, and I'm looking forward to seeing old SC.org friends and meeting new ones.

    Hey Bill,

Once again I am in the going to try hard as heck!

The good news is that my volume of work this spring is well below last year, so taking a couple of days off should not impact my progress much. However, if we get that same weather as last year, I will be stuck here in a rain shower, unless I burn up the highway. Maybe that will happen also!

If the weather this way does get bad and I burn out of Haines on Friday, maybe I could plan on picking up pilots weathered in along the way?

No matter what, I would probably plan on leaving Friday afternoon, unless I really get ahead on the work. Will try to keep from having that week one where we are pumping a river out of our workspace. Makes it hard to leave for days at a time when pumps are required.
I don't know where you've been me lad, but I see you won first Prize!

Hey folks! The SuperCub.Org booth will be in the usual location across from the food court. Come by, hang out, meet people, etc.

Information on the Saturday evening event (different this year!) coming soon.

Hmmmm, wonder if they will give a big discount on a tug. Tried my best to steal one form Haskell OK, but seems that the volume of buckshot was more than my desire to test.

Draco will be nice to see. Wonder if they want to give demo rides?

Hello all! Just a question. Is there a particular hotel SC.org folks are gravitating to this year as in the past? Thanks in advance and either way I’m planning on being there. Looking forward to meeting more of you all and reacquainting with others! See you there!

    OZ,

    Lake Front (Millennium), Coast, Marriott
There are others near Lake Hood. A lot of SC.org folk gather in the Millennium bar or on the deck (WX permitting) in the afternoons or at the SC.org booth at the show. Looking forward to meeting you.

I can't stand being in or near Anchorage that long. If I roll into town at 0700, I am ready to leave at flank speed by 1400...
Back during the years I had tables at the trade-show, I do not think I ever generated more than one paying customer.

    Folks

My good friend Eric passed through Spokane this week. Mike Woodson and I stabled, fed, watered, and sent him on his way. He made it from Milwaukee WI to Circletown MT, Spokane, Watson Lake, Anchorage. 4 days from Milwaukee to Anchorage. Thats pretty hard core. Headwinds from MKE to Kamloops, and coming through the mtns in Montana snow showers, ice pellets etc. He went up the trench. When he landed in MacKenzie to refuel they told him Ft Ware was now a good stop. In the past most folks avoided it because the natives were not very receptive to visitors. I guess that has changed. So keep that in mind. I do not know if he got fuel there, or just refueled from his fuel bags. I'll post when I talk to him. No fuel at Fort Ware but a good runway for a quick stop to transfer fuel from bags/cans.

Note the survival vest, cargo net, etc. Eric does it right. He will be at the Trade Show for at least a day.
    Congratulations Eric!! See you there.

I will be heading North (commercial) on Thursday early. I look forward to seeing all you bums up there.

I’m heading north, Thursday, big silver bird. Staying through the 9th; I have three seminars planed around the area. Teaching for Stewart’s Systems gives me a good excuse to hang around Alaska a bit longer.

Hope you all have a good time flying north today.

Weather for weekend looks tough on the coast, and extending along parts of the highway. No way I can risk flying up with these conditions and work schedule.

I am going to start rolling smoke out of the diesel as soon as I can Friday, with the plan to take Monday off to get back. If anyone is stuck along the highway and wants to get to anchorage, let me know, I can get you to the show, and back to the plane on Monday.

She seats six in a pinch.

    Folks

A few photos at the Great Alaska Gathering (trade show)........

Airframes Alaska group tour. Great company, great products, great people.

While at Airframes I had to get my annual picture with Heather. She is the GM there and a wonderful lady.

2018 photo with Heather and her new baby girl twins

    2017 Picture with Heather

2016 (or maybe 2015) fun to see the progression. I think I have a couple more years but it is too hard to dig through all my photos to find them.

Group dinner at the Double Musky Inn restaurant in Girdwood.

Another group dinner at Jens in Anchorage. Man we eat well. Many thanks to Gary and Sue Drean. Happy birthday Mike!!

Iím here! Thanks to all who stopped by the Wipaire booth today. Wish I could have made the gathering tonight at Airframes but the cold that started in Wednesday night picked up some steam this afternoon and Iím holed up in my hotel room trying to recover. Donít worry, we have hand sanitizer if you choose to visit tomorrow

Airframes Alaska put on an incredible event last night at their newly remodeled Reeve Air Motive facility. I would guess around 200 folks attended, great food, great band, and great people!

Many thanks to all at Airframes for making this a great night!

My rookie year at the show and I wanted to say how much fun it was to meet and get to know several of you. Certainly my "first annual" trip to the show with many more to follow.

Thanks again to Supercub.org and Airframes for a great Saturday reception after the show.
