I have a Piatt pod, and like it very much. The airplane is a privately operated 180(as is my friend’s white and red airplane, same pod). I could see the value of the deeper Aeropod for commercial ops, particularly with a 185.

For local flying it contains engine cover, snowshoes, shovel, etc.
For ski trips all of the above; plus skis, poles, snowboards, wing covers, extension cord, cabin heater, a couple of bags...

Very useful. The door seems correctly sized. I’ve never needed the rear door, even when loading skis.

It would be hard to say that it slows the airplane down. A couple of mph at most, especially hard to notice on skis.
It does affect cooling, the cowl flaps are often open, even in winter.

Do you have an email for Bob Piatt. I've tried calling him but its difficult from New Zealand.

I have the Aerocet pod. The doors are small, but it has huge capacity for such a low profile. For hauling hikers into the backcountry, it would be no good as you couldn't carry big packs in it, but for private use it's amazing.

Agreed. We do use ours for commercial usage from time to time, and it's "ok," but the Cessna or Piatt pods would have been a better choice. Those mentioned backpacks require unpacking and stuffing into the pod, then removal and repacking!

I just bought a 1975 A185F on Edo 3430 floats with a Cessna cargo pod. You are saying the pod is approved on floats. What kind of paperwork does one need, maybe a flight supplement or what. Because it is a Cessna part and shown in the parts and service manuals one would not need an STC, but I presently have no paperwork and do not have a copy of the flight supplement. Any thoughts.
