Santa Flies His Super Cub Once Again!

North Pole
Ho, Ho, Ho, Merry Christmas Supercub.org Girls and Boys!

It has been quite a year up at the North Pole, with my Elves working at a feverish pace to reward those girls and boys who have been very, very good, and to mine some lumps of coal for those who have, shall I say, fallen a little bit short (SteveE, there is still time to redeem yourself).

First of all, please let me take a moment to thank Larry Cassem, my ace mechanic, for keeping my flyin' sheen (to quote CloudDancer) in tip top shape! Here is Larry with one of my helpers...

Next, I want to thank Grant Wallace and Miguel at Aerotechnique for working over my hydraulic pump on an emergency basis! Wow, what a super job Grant's shop did on making it possible to operate my skis this year!

Well, last evening I received the most glorious news and photos from Dan Carroll's hangar. Dan, a Supercub.org supporter, hosted this year's Santa's Super Cub Decorating Party, and from the photos it looked like my Elves did a super duper job of decorating my Super Cub!

Here are Darrel and Vivian Starr...Vivian is recovering from foot surgery, but that didn't keep her from getting out to help direct the activities!

Here is Wayne Meier, another Supercub.org supporter, putting my name on the nose!

Here is Julie Corfman chatting with Vivian...

...and supervising the operations

...and they took a moment for the annual group photo

Sadly, over the years we have had members of the decorating team Head West, and some have moved to other parts of your Great Country. They were missed, but certainly not forgotten.

Randy will be ferrying my Cub to Park Rapids today for my flight to Johanning Field on Saturday, Dec 15, and I'll return to the North Pole to continue checking my list and see if, by some small miracle, SteveE has rallied to get off the Naughty list! Randy will ferry the Cub back to his new digs at Lino Airpark to prepare for the Ron and Cathy Barrows Santa's Flyin on December 22. A busy time for all, but a rewarding time, as well.

Christmas is, of course, my most favorite time of the year.

Merry Christmas to all! Spread the Joy, Reach out to those in need, Tell your loved ones how much you love them while you can. Get out and Fly.

Santa

SantaBob, it is beyond belief that anybody, including Santa, could even consider having me on a naughty list.

Well, SteveE, I am not about to guess who on this website might put you on the naughty list. Santa has his sources, perhaps even one or several or many of your fellow Oklahomans (if that is a word). Just sayin'

I don't think it is a question of who put him on the naughty list but who didn't. 8)

Santa:

I have it on good authority that SteveE is now a certified commercial helicopter pilot! That should qualify him for the "nice" list for sure!

Many thanks to the Elves for making my "airsheen" looking so awesome! I can't wait to get this Baby Into The Air!!!

Ho, Ho, Ho!

Santa

p.s. It will take more than SteveE becoming a whirlibird pilot to get him off the naughty list!

Well.....it's like growing up and wanting to be a helicopter pilot......you can do one or the other but not both. You can fly or you can shoot, but it's pretty hard to fly and shoot at the same time!

Steve

So, years ago I had my 4 year old daughter trained so that when someone said “look at the helicopter”, she would say “that’s not a helicopter, it’s an R-22”......

You smokin something? They almost even look like a real helichopper.

Better than your helicopter. The guy with the R44 here doesn't know it isn't a real helicopter. He just knows it is easier to maintain than his old Hiller.

Well, the flight to see children at Park Rapids was an interesting one! Johanning Field is a small airstrip carved out between two irrigation circles and runs 9-27. The wind was gusting, boys and girls, straight out of the south 16-gusting to 20. It is a good thing I get some practice with crosswinds in my sled with Rudolph and the other Reindeers! Ho, Ho, Ho!

There were over 130 children waiting for me to land and it was all the parents could do to keep them back when my Super Cub rolled to a stop! The crowded around the Cub and we all spent a moment remembering what the True Meaning of Christmas is...and they knew! Inside we went, into the workshop complete with a big Christmas tree and a nice trailer for me to stand on to give out gifts...and give out gifts we did with the help of some beautiful Elves!
IMG_4795.jpg
IMG_4796.jpg
IMG_4797.jpg

There were families that came forward to get their photo with Santa...
IMG_4809.jpg

And there was Supercub.org member Thom Peterson and his wife, Cathy, with some of their Grandchildren helping make this a terrific day!
IMG_4814.jpg

There were some tender moments, as many beautiful children gave Santa some BIG HUGS! Warmed Santa's heart, they did...
IMG_4815.jpg
IMG_4805.jpg

Two little boys came up to receive their gifts and the older one (must have been 5 years old) said "Santa, my brother used the F word!" Santa was caught off guard, but the next thing I knew the younger brother tugged on this older brother's sleeve and whispered something into his brother's ear. The older brother looked at me and said "Santa, he said he is sorry." Santa had a pretty good laugh from that one! Ho, Ho, Ho!

The Magic of Christmas is alive and well in the hearts of at least 130 children in Park Rapids, and in the hearts of the Mom's and Dad's and Grandparents who celebrated Christmas with Santa in that machine shop way out in the country. The efforts of Thom and Cathy, and of Tim and Geri Johanning, and Katie and Paul Johanning, and Sara and Robb Swanson, were all rewarded with a beautiful sense of community that I felt there in rural Park Rapids.

I couldn't resist taking a Santa Selfie when I returned to home base...
IMG_3513.JPG

I think I'll head back to the North Pole and keep an eye on the Elves as they work hard getting ready for Christmas Eve, and of course I'll need to sample some of Mrs. Claus' chocolate chip cookies! In the meantime, thanks for subscribing to Supercub.org...it is a worthy cause and a terrific investment in all things Super Cubs! May God Bless You and keep you safe as we approach the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

Merry Christmas!

(I'll update you with the next Santa Flyin at Lino Airpark, next Saturday, December 22)

Boys and Girls, Santa has returned to the North Pole just in time to catch a nap, eat some cookies and get ready for a Great Night of Flying!

I had a terrific time this year flying Santa's Super Cub to Lino Airpark on Saturday morning...

Ling 1.jpg
IMG_0535.jpg
IMG_4857.jpg
...I even had the chance to see Randy and Julie's granddaughters, Annabelle and Quinn, again!

IMG_0546.jpg

We had more "special needs" kids here this year, and that was a real treat for Santa and their Mom's and Dad's! All totalled, Santa had 75 children attend, along with many Mom's, Dad's, Grandparents, and other friends.

Then it was off to Lynx FBO at the Anoka County-Blaine airport for the last event!

These are such precious little people, folks, and old Santa had more than one big laugh, and more than a few tears of joy, as he flew around Minnesota this Christmas.

I just want to thank all of you who helped me this year. Were it not for the kindness and generosity of many of you Supercub.org people Santa would not be bringing the Joy of Christmas to these beautiful children this year. I know that you have been (pretty much) good Boys and Girls again this year, and I wish you a Very Merry Christmas as we celebrate Christ's birth. You are special people in Santa's life, and I hope you know that.

Merry Christmas!

Santa
