    North East Winter Fun

I learned my lesson on bungees last year. As they say, new ones are not as good as the old ones. Installed a new set and didnít bother to unhook them for overnight. Went out the next morning and for some reason had this nagging thought to check them before taxing out. Lifted up the wing quick to ensure they lifted the ski, and they didnít move at all. Not a 1/4 inch. Ski was laying right out straight as if it was still on the ground.
Adjusted them and made them work that day but never left them hooked up overnight again.

I've done that with RC planes, looped it and the skis got stuck straight down. Not as bad when an rc flips in the snow though

Saturday was a beautiful day. Snow was melting.

Made my first landings on ""Beef Island". It is bigger and smoother than I was thinking..

It is bulky, and I usually stuff it in the extended baggage and not in the bag it comes in. I have the rieff turbo Xp with sump pads, oil cooler pad and cylinder bands. If I plug it in over night with the cowl cover on, the cht and oil temps are 150. Sure is nice to push it out, Fire it up and go.

    Doesnít this look like fun?

Ready for the Feds to come look at the skis and drop off the field approval.

Finally got out today. Flew up this Jeff's and got a look at his new hangar. Radiant heat, LED light, foam insulation.....

Huh...guess who else runs a grade 8 in his snowblower.

We played up North for a while, when you start at 2:30 on the shortest days of the year it doesn't give you time to go to far

Jeff's new camp. Ice looked good every where we went

Oli, Try not raising your tail so high on take off. You should be able to shorten the run a bit.

Oli, Notice in your video how far the tail wheel is off the ground when your main gear lifts off. Don't lift the tail any higher than that.

I'm all with you. Your comments are always welcome, and I will think about it next takeoffs. Really

I could also try a more neutral stick, and let the plane lift to see the difference.

I would like to thank you all for everything. Being a rooky, SuperCub.org was really an inspiration and good info source for this built.
Looking forward to improve or building another project.... Happy NewYear

Maybe you could be shorter leaving the tail lower. Maybe not. Looked like a 40’ takeoff. How much happier than happy do you want to be. I’d be happy with 40’

Do you have to weld the fitting to the gear leg? I donít recall how they attach

I think TurboBeaver is waiting for a set. Call him up, he may fly down and show you how to install them on his PA-12.

Yes, there's a fitting which gets welded to the bottom of the gear leg. My biggest head ache is an uneven hangar floor, which makes the mocking up/ aligning for welding a PIA.

Trick Air calls out for attaching the crud cutter cable and bungee clip to the lower engine cradle bolts and notching the lower cowling for clearance. I'd prefer using the forward gear attach bolt instead, most of the Maule installs I've seen have done it that way. I'd like someone with a few installs under their belt to put their eyes on it.

I'll take you up on that Wolfie. I'm at N72 where are you? If you're up for it maybe we could meet up and do some flying and I could get some input on my ski install.
