That plane has an experimental IO-550 installation. It isn't a museum display piece. It flies regularly. In fact there was an article about it this spring when the owner took an aviation writer for a ride in it during the Airman's Show. Maybe somebody can remember the link?
It's L-1 big brother in the AK Aviation Museum is supposed to be as good a STOL airplane as any slat wing Cub according to a friend who's flown it. I'd love to see it in action. Slats and monster flaps aren't a new idea.

Stewart,
Did a search on youtube for "Stinson L-13" and there is a good flying video on the "dragonfly."
I sat and watched the plane in your original post do touch and goes last spring when it was on hydraulic skis. It's a slow flyer, for sure. It was fun to watch a big plane move so slowly.

I don't know where you've been me lad, but I see you won first Prize!
A friend of mine restored one and flew it several years. Cool airplane. Wings and tail fold. Gear rotates so it can be towed behind a deuce and a half in the same tracks. Aviat borrowed one of his project L13s to study the fuselage and the huge opening in the side. Good article by Bud Davidson.

A friend of mine has two L-13 projects and they both were converted to 985’s.
They originally came with franklins but a lot were converted.
300 give or take we’re made.
There was for sale last year at the Great Alaska Aviation gathering last year.
These two are in anchorage.
I think the green one has a 300 lycoming.

The Stinson / Consiolidated Vultee / Convair L13 was originally equipped with the 250hp Franklin O-425.

Acme Aircraft In Torrance CA bought some after they were surplussed out and hung Lycoming R680's on them.
They were sold as the Acme Centaur.
There was an Acme Centaur ad in an old 1960's Flying magazine my uncle had,
they were marketed as a utility / ranch type aircraft.
