what I like about this hunt appose to other Alaska hunts I have saw is this one was all done on foot no airplanes and just all technique and skill !!!!!

This is the first decent moose I have ever taken, and likely the largest I will ever take. An incredibly lucky and rewarding trip.

Thanks Gerry, this was a dream hunt. I dont think I will ever top it in my lifetime!

Didnt get any fancy field pictures but we got tagged out on antelope. Not seeing any real big monsters this year for some reason? All have been that 12"-14".

Weekend was good for some chilly time afield with the dogs again. Grouse hunting in the morning and a pheasant hunt in the afternoon. Felsig, the 6 1/2 month old pup with the blue collar, is finding, pointing, backing and retrieving birds both with his older siblings and by himself. All with only some good basic obedience training. Natural instinct is strong in the youngster! Sure is fun to watch him develop and learn from the older dogs.

Probably heading to Idaho Middle Fork or Upper/Lower Loon this weekend. Anybody have a report on what's biting? Baetis, Caddis, other? Thanks!

Moose, ducks, grouse, pike, and great friends. Couldn’t ask for more!

StickW,
That is one dandy Moose, classic big webed frontals and one to be proud of! And your choice of aircraft isnt bad either! Congrats on both.

ND Pheasants probably down again. Saw some of this years hatch but baseball size hail hit many locations. Birds spotty and my guess is 70% down from banner years. Corn and Sunflower harvest has just started so that is where many birds were found. Ample moisture grew the crops high so corn was difficult to shoot over. Scratched out some decent shoots thanks to my dog Toby. The Dakotas need some average years back to back to get numbers up. Perfect weather with light wind and mild temps helped the old guy stay comfortable and optimistic. Placing him for shots not easy.

I always enjoy your photos Eric. Both those ole dogs are lucky to have you around. Most of us are jealous that they both still want to play with you.

Glenn

Yep, nothing a couple of good years won’t fix, deffinately the nicest weather I’ve ever experienced in SD this year for sure.

Nice as always Eric.
Good to see your dad was able to participate and enjoy. Those days are precious.

We’re seeing similar results. I flew to Minot last weekend and birds were definitely down. Real dry. And this week we’re in North Central SD. A buddy and I have done well but our group is WAY down on bird success.

Still good oof to get out and enjoy.

Was good to see see you at Jaransons Fall Color Tour.

Opening worked out ok for me, glad to live in Montana. rough score 358.5

Headed below zero tonight. Ugly weather here in MN. makes AK seem tropical. Took a deer after 30 hours sitting. Wolf country deer are not easy nor are the temps.

Saw 21 wolves on a telemetry flight earlier this week. These fellas brought down what we assumed was a moose and had it go through the thin ice before they were done...

Nov 14 2018 Buck.jpg Shot two average bucks this year. 214.6 lbs. The first one on the 5th and this one on the 14th. Can't seem to be able to attach a picture of the other one, but it was slightly smaller than this one. Used my Remington Model Seven (18.5" barrel) in 7mm-08. Shot was 224 yards. Federal Fusion 120gr.
Bucks are just now coming into the hard rut. Saw more scrapes and rubs in the past week after the hard cold snap. Hunted pretty hard, as I spent sunup to sundown out in the woods since the 3rd of Nov.
