Flying into Reno area - advice?

I'm flying into the Reno area with big tires the week of June 3. For now, I'm planning to land at Reno/Stead, but I'd like to avoid taxiing on pavement for 2 miles. Is Spanish Springs open? Is there a dirt strip at Stead?

Don't eat Mexican food at your fuel stop in Farmington cause it gets pretty bumpy over the desert even if you are hauling butt in the back seat of a Sea Fury with a Bearcat on your wing. ;)

Sorry, your post just reminded me of my trips to Reno with Howard Pardue and Nelson Ezell in Howard's Bearcat and Sea Fury. Unfortunately the two airplanes were destroyed, Howard is no longer with us and Nelson is struggling with sever head trauma injury.

Nice guy in Georgia with a Bearcat used to fill up my J-3 for free! I think he too crashed on a Reno trip.
