As I wake up this morning with a view of Lake Hood in Anchorage, my calendar says that today marks twenty years since my private pilot check ride. In some ways it seems like it must be much longer than that because aviation has introduced me to so much incredible adventure, and incredible people (including my wife). Those who know the story, remember that I took flying lessons because of a fear of flying. An accident the same year I received my license, amazingly supportive friends and family, and great mentors and instructors helped me arrive safely at this anniversary.
I could not find my "first solo" picture, but here is a picture of me with the first airplane I purchased (photo in 2001 at the first New Holstein fly in). Time sure flies.
Thanks, everybody!
