And, once again, the Recreation Aviation Foundation is a Big Raffle Sponsor, providing lots of RAF swag. We'll know what it is when we open the box, Christmas in June.
    Thanks again to the RAF!

Have they found a caretaker yet to open up? They had a difficult time getting one hired. Maybe some Super Cub type would like to spend the summer in Johnson Creek at the State of Idaho's expense.

The new caretaker should start June 4, according to Idaho Dept. Aeronautics. There was a hiccup with the original hire. The also managed to hire a caretaker at Smiley Creek.
Idaho drinks more wine per person than any other state in the country.

Great, and with the rain we have received, they aren't behind on the watering.

Many of us know the new caretaker, it is Jim Lane from here in my neck of the woods!

Not clear on how purchased raffle tickets are "handed out." Purchased tickets given when one shows up?

Ted, after the online raffle sales close on Sunday night I will be printing out all of the numbers and sticking on the ticket stubs. You will be emailed the numbers that you have.

Steve, sending an email about raffle tickets. Can I carry my new tires on the struts if they won't fit inside?

Don't be learning any more bad habits!!

Make sure to ask your fellow Huey pilot: "Are you a professional pilot like Tom?"

    See how hard he laughs.

I was at JC camping with my daughter last weekend and I've never seen it so green and beautiful! Mother nature and Jim have been doing great work. Looking forward to seeing everyone in a few weeks.

During the Johnson Cr. Flying-in, I am planning on flying into Dewey Moore to do some maintenance on the the runway. I was told that the upper end of the Airstrip is getting overgrown by vegetation and it will eventually be unusable for aircraft use. I would like to have a couple experienced Backcountry Pilots volunteer to fly-in with there own aircraft and do some maintenance on the runway with me. Let me know...

I'm all for volunteers doing airfield maintenance. You have permission from the Forest Service to land there?

Arnold, it is all on the registration page. Nothing really to know other than the address.

    Folks,

I've volunteered to act as the SC.org Safety Liaison for this event. Whether I'm qualified as such is highly questionable, but I'm happy to do anything I can to make it safe AND fun. As we inch closer to the big event, it's a good time to refresh on the available resources to this fly-in, and all ID backcountry ops. Here's 3 of my favorites:

    1) The IAA (Idaho Aviation Association), led by Andrew George, is a fantastic group doing yeoman's work for the Idaho backcountry strips. Their website has a wealth of information on JC and many, many other ID strips. The following page shows webcams and weather reports for many of our favorite strips...

    https://idahoaviation.com/idaho-airs...o-airstrip-map

    2) The RAF (Recreational Aviation Foundation), much like the IAA, is doing lots of good work on strip access, safe operations, etc. This page is a recently produced backcountry ops foldable 'checklist' of sorts. A lot of it is routine for all ops, but several reminders, like engine out options, are worth re-thinking in backcountry terrain.

    http://theraf.org/sites/default/file...hecklist_0.pdf

    3) More specific to this event, the Idaho Dept of Aeronautics has published the Recommended SOPs for Johnson Creek. If you HAVEN'T read it, read it. If you HAVE read it, read it again.

    https://apps.itd.idaho.gov/apps/aero...0to%20send.pdf

Finally, I have it on good authority that anyone who ignores this particular recommendation, will be duly throttled by Lou upon shut-down...

    Straight in Landing
Straight in landings to Runway 17 are strongly discouraged.
    WARNING
By not joining the pattern, there is increased risk of a midair collision. Your radio calls could be masked by terrain. You may not see airplanes, animals, vehicles or sprinklers on the runway until established on final.

    Cheers,

    Andrew

I just sent Atlee some $$ via a credit card order, maybe I can win some back!

Strip work? Sounds great! What tools do we need? My right seat passenger is looking to be a strong 21 year old that has a long history of hard work and volunteering... I can fly in some extra water and chairs so we can supervise

IAA has a new webcam page, here: https://idahoaviation.com/idaho-airs...webcams_header

There are a couple of new-ish cameras in Yellow Pine, as well as the one at Johnson Creek.

Life has grabbed me by the throat again. I won't be able to make it this year- again.

    I hate this 'adult' stuff...

Would someone please have a rib and beer for me.
