1880,s Kodiak Bear Trap

I love the history of Alaska, here's a 1880,s Russian hand made Brown Bear Trap, it came from the native village of Akhiok Bay on the southern tip of Deadman bay on Kodiak Island. Made prior to Newhouse being made in 1887. The Russian where rapeing Alaskas furs prior to William Seward buying the land in 1859, He was the secretary of the Interior then, prior to becomeing secretary of State under Abraham Lincoln. Note the hand forged teeth, and makers mark, this was done because the Russian black smith's had pride in there work. The photo on it on my 35in bush wheels will show you how big it is....enjoy.....Scott

Cool! I've got an early Newhouse No. 15 made in Kenwood, NY.
