Sun rise and moon set over Denali yesterday while going to my cabin near Skwetna, AK. An amazing light show on a grand scale.

The reason for the trip was to dig the cabin out.

That does not look like fun shoveling...

Ha, I did not mention the 22 steps going up the bank from the lake, now that was work!F5BBECB8-B2D9-4303-86FF-FFF6F420CD4A.jpeg

It was still only 10 degrees on the return trip home this afternoon.
This was a flight from Cortez Colorado to GrandJunction and back. The red rock area is close to Paradox Colorado. The higher mountains are those around Telluride.

I would like to ask, since never have landed on ice roads; how is directional stability after you loose rudder authority on landing and again on take off before the rudder kicks in?

That question, like snow, depends on the ice conditions. But for the vast majority of the time, it's pretty much a non-issue if you take into account wind speed/direction.

If it's slick ice like below, doing power slide takeoffs is a blast!

I have intentionally tried to ground loop on bare clear ice. Not happening, unless the main tires find something rough like a patch of snow to grab.

Glare ice flying is fun. Now add 2-3 inches of cold light fluffy snow on top and that doubles the fun! Safe crack free ice of course.

Land into any wind on ice. Tires will give some sideways but a ski skeg can grab a hard rough spot and try to twist the gear even going straight ahead.

Nowhere in particular, usual bar hopping haunts, just had to get in the air. Way to much drama lately. Dogs had fun except for the huge stickers I had to pick out of their fur.
