Where did you fly today?

A week ago Friday there was a rockslide that occurred about 30 minutes after I passed through the area. On my return trip home I had to detour around the slide area. When I got home I got in the Cub and took a few pictures and videos of the slide. I then shared it on Facebook for the area residents to see. It generated a lot of interest, so much so that I had a TV station out of Denver call and interview me. It was interesting to see how intrigued they were that I would be able to just go get in my plane and go take pictures. I did have a copilot in the back to fly while I took pictures.

Eddy - What airport are you based at in CO? I recently moved out to Denver area and looking around for hangers. Thanks.

Yesterday was not a case of where, but who I got to fly.

A gentleman came in to see if the weather was good enough to do a flight over Kruzof Island, just a few minutes out of Sitka. He wanted to take his Mother-in-law out.

She is 92, homesteaded the area we went to look at back before statehood; and to make it better she told me she used to fly a cub!! We were told a few more stories by the Dr. accompanying her, and the Son-in-law. History of the area here, from the source!

She has really poor hearing, so communication was not easy. On asking what kind of cub she did not remember, but further questions and she did respond: "I didn't start it, I Made someone else start it for me!"

We had to lift her out of the plane, but heck- the amphibious 185 can be difficult for anyone to get in and out of!

I’m based out of Cortez, as far into the Southwest corner of the state as you can get. About 250 miles from Denver.

Perfect evening to cruise the lakes. Door and windows open, 84 deg and dry.

Met a friend in La Paz Bolivia. Niether the Cub nor the 441 Conquest has a problem with the 13,300 ft airport elevation.
Nice scenery at 14,500. The mountain is 21,320 ft Illimani.

Well, let's try again.

SJ, is there a way to get this hosting software to properly handle copy and paste of photos? That's what I did. But this time I went thru the monkey-motion of downloading to my local drive first, then re-uploading. The photo shows up on my computer in all the posts, but apparently not on others' screens. That's whacko!!

Looks good in Alaska Gordon. Like the Old Timers did just pull up the nose and then spin'er down through the undercast.

Ha! Not with the terrain that's under (read "in") this deck!! But it was an easy VMC climb to get on top, and CAVU at the destination.

Today with RNAV (GPS) Approaches and the right setup no need to worry. Even my Garmin 660 works good enough for that. I never cared for flying VFR on top much over terrain before all of today's GPS gadgets.

Keep the pics coming.

Gary

Even I can find my way, given the magenta line on Garmin Pilot, simultaneously tracking inbound on a VOR, and radar with flight following!

Mt. Rainier. It was an IFR departure in western Washington, but headed for CAVU in eastern Washington.

Ended up ickier than anticipated on the return trip, so picked out a sandbar on the Cowlitz river to wait for a bit. Gotta love a Cub - -

4th of July week guests and all the kids left on Sunday, so Debbie and I took a quick flight to Gooseberry island to just sit in the sand for a bit.

After almost making it to Lake Clark Pass we were turned back due to fog. Poked around some landing areas near Little Susitna.
