This past Saturday. It's sometimes a hard time motivating my youngest to get out the door, but when I showed him a video of his older brother sledding on icebergs last year, he said "Ok dad...that's pretty cool. Let's go."
While we were on the lake he thanked me for making him go. I'll count that as a win.

Looks like Alton Bay is done for the year.
Kurt
Yes, I believe Paul called it last week. I did a low pass to see how much water was there. Then cruised the lake.
Hi, it’s called „Kühtai“ and yes it is open. But due to Covid restrictions it is not crowded at the moment. This year lot‘s of people are also walking up the mountains with so called „touring skis“.

Just got back to SLC after delivering my lovely Cessna 120 to Culpepper, Virginia. Surprisingly uneventful! Fogged I’m in Nebraska, a little snowstorm dodging across Wyoming, and some serious turbulence over the Appalachians. Took three long days and I got to see 5 new states. Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia and Virginia. Would’ve loved to make it all the way to the coast but I was delivering it and needed to make my flight home. Somehow every single landing was a crosswind, something I don’t often need with the Salt Lake Valley always funneling wind north or south.
Big flooding in Kentucky
Somewhere in Western Nebraska
Leaving Salt Lake
The 120 all tucked into its new home. Father and son pair will be flying the 150 and the 120 around as a pair.
And here’s the new ride. 1958 A model. If you’re in the Salt Lake area and want to fly together, especially if you can instruct, I’ll be in the air in a few weeks after getting some things done on it.

Wind hammered, good term, kinda like work hardened, which is how I think of hard snow. I just spent an hour ridge semi soaring (at 800-900 RPM at the prop in the RANS, too light to dead stick) the ridge behind my place, which has a ski area. The outabounders are busy beavers, eyeballing all their tracks is a hoot. They have way too much energy and time on their hands, judging by the tracks they leave! 9K+ ridge, 2 miles from the hangar, literally in my backyard, which is at 5600', and today was the first day with summer type upslope lift.
I can't tell what brand of straps those are holding your skis to the struts, ( I have these, similar: https://titanstraps.com/) and they are the best thing since sliced bread, just super handy for all kind of uses. They were the missing link for how I secure the Montague bike in the RANS, among multiple other uses. You can use them with large gloves on, they don't get brittle in the cold, you can use them in the dark, they are strong but just stretchy enough to maintain constant pressure, UV impervious, I love the things. Oh yeah, GREAT pics!
If that was in reference to my picture, then yes, I use Titan Straps. Love those things! I'll admit that I was a bit nervous the first time I took off using those straps to secure skis, but they work incredibly well. I always have a couple straps under my rear seat now - never know when you might find treasure that needs to take a ride home!

Yes Brian, your pic, I got the various ski fliers confused! I have about a dozen of the Titan straps now, being able to link them together to achieve longer lengths is another great thing about them.
I flew up to Salmon ID. and the Lost Trail ski area there (though my ski area, 5 minutes away, is better in all respects and I already have a season pass there, and it was a 3 hour, 1 way, flight counting the diversions) a few weeks ago, and was looking forward to Titan strapping my snowboard to the lift struts, until I realized I could fit it inside since I didn't have a passenger.
I am always a bit disappointed, after landing on a long slope, turned around and with the engine at idle and just glissading along downhill, until gradually getting enough speed to lift off whether I want to or not, that the Datum skis/RANS combo can't carve a turn! I need some kind of articulated winter landing gear.....
