Where did you fly today?

Good call 40M. That is exactly right. The fossils are fun and are in the same zone as Dinosaur fossils. Try this one?

The wife and I flew up the Wood River to have a visit at the Wood River Lodge before they shut down for the season.

They don’t like it. Or linemen hanging those big cross country lines. They don’t seem to see the humor in that I don’t like hitting them either.

Another soybean field being harvested in NW Iowa and you can see some disease(either anthracnose or Goss's wilt) areas in the corn field below me this morning.

Rust was big around here this year. Good summer to be an aerial applicator. They were busy putting fungicide down a while back.

Thursday October 7-- Upper Peninsula of Michigan... Minnesota... Wisconsin... Iowa... Illinois... Missouri.... Arkansas... Louisiana... then back by way of Tennessee... Kentucky... (The Snow Owl's first visit to the last five.) Indiana... and the Lower Peninsula of Michigan on Tuesday October 12, 2021.

Returning from an antelope hunt yesterday in the Cub I flew over Rogers Pass, where Highway 200 crosses the continental divide in Montana.

I snapped the picture as I crawled over the divide. It had been rough up to about 5 miles from the divide but was very smooth those last few miles. But my ground speed dropped into the 30s! This is in a Cub with a normal no-wind cruise of about 94 mph. That means a wind speed of about 60.

Today I looked at my InReach plots and the one closest to the pass showed a ground speed of 36 mph.

Busy in NWA

It's been pretty busy here in Northwest Arkansas since the AOPA article and video came out a few months ago, although a lot of the folks coming through had been here before. I've been spending most of my time in "other" airplanes but have had a few chances to fly myself around.

I did get to ride in a helicopter for the first time in my life to go mark off a new strip we are working on with a private land owner. This will be another neat place to visit, although we have to deal with a LOT of armadillos first as you can see by one of the many holes pictured below

We marked the ends of the runway off for the mower guys.

Then it was back to the ranch - helicopters (especially ones with jet engines) are very cool...

There is always stuff to be done on one of the airfields down here. The solar/cellular weather station at Trigger Gap had gone off line and needed to be hard reset. It's a great "mission" for the Super Cub.

The fall colors are rapidly approaching but not quite here yet. The weather has been fantastic for the last two weeks, but now it is starting to get windy.
where4.png

Checked out a new airstrip being built at Banks Ranch - won't have grass on it until late spring but it will be a nice spot making a total of five airstrips on the property.

If you see this guy in his Maule at one of the airstrips, he is probably either mowing or doing something else to make sure it is in good shape for visitors.
