Not spectacular like the others, but happy enough time flying a 75 year old airplane over the Palouse.

Is that Canyon Ferry? Wherever it is, the water looks lower than I'd expect in April.

Yes it is North of White Earth at Canyon Ferry today. Good catch! Water was clear. Not much run off yet and very little rain.

Made my first off airport landings a couple days ago on a sandbar on the Big Su in my dad's cub. After lots of them as a passenger I now have a couple for my own logbook! I've had a big super cub smile ever since.

I’d say those 35s and hotrod engine earn their keep! Neat spot. Do you notice more power out of the 11.1s at those high altitudes?

One of my landing areas. Final approach is along the brook between the struts. The landing "strip" is 1000 feet to the trees. One way in with no go around. Missed approach is a hard left turn at the end of the brook. It doesn't look tight in this view, just look at the trees on the hill at the far (right) end when you touch down. Takeoff starts at the narrows just beyond the road being well in the air by the jury strut, about 500 feet.

The 35s and Acme shocks definitely give more margin and make up for some lack of experience.

Yes. Extra 100 rpm static and climb over the 9.5:1 pistons. Solo and half tanks it does 500-550 fpm through 16K. Fuel burn is down slightly at the same speed/rpm, maybe .5 gph.

Nailing the landings lately so working on spot landings, today I was trying to hit the zebra before the numbers. My spot landing practice is all in preparation for Idaho backcountry.

Today was pretty sporty with winds from 200 @18 G28 while landing on RWY22. So not much of a crosswind component, but the gusts made for some tough control.

    https://youtu.be/w-MLTG2wcRw

Inside the cockpit matches the following tailwheel camera view for each landing.

Wind was increasing so only did two today

If that was me I’d be landing into the wind.
Conventional airport wisdom is to align the plane with the stripes painted on the pavement. Me? If there is room I’ll land diagonally across the painted stripes and into the wind.

My airplane stalls around 28 mph, so landing in strong winds can be "sporty" at best. So whenever there's a stiff crosswind, I also use the "diagonal across the runway" to get on the ground with less drama.
A buddy who flew a CH-750 once came home to an unforecast 90º crosswind blowing 15 knots. He requested permission from our tower to land "at a diagonal" to the runway heading. They approved it with "at pilot's discretion" tacked on, so he landed 85º to the runway heading. (That runway is 100' wide, plus the shoulders are wider than that...)
Afterward, he jokingly told the tower crew "That's the shortest runway I've ever landed on, but it sure is nice and WIDE..." That had them laughing for a while...

Wind got CRAZY strong due to an approaching snow squall on my checkride, we were done and after 2 go arounds and the storm only minutes away I asked the DPE if it was ok to land diagonal, his reply was “you’re the pilot”. So I took it in on a diagonal….. on a 2300’L x 24’W runway. Yep you guessed it…. I used some of the grass after touching down on the asphalt. But it was a well planned and successful landing in very strong winds. Airport was UT9

I went to pick up a friend dropping a CAP plane, there was a stiff 90* Xwind 15 gust to 20 at the airport so I landed 90* to the runway onto the taxi way. Safe and short, uncontrolled AP.
Then landed at the Controlled AP and landed at a 45-60* across towards a taxiway. No issues with the tower.

I got some T-Craft time......using the scaffold plank I made years ago from the non-airworthy rear spars, to do some flashing work on top the HydroSwing hangar door. The main spars are "still in service" also, as sawhorse legs. As are several smaller bits and pieces in the RANS, one in particular that serves as my arm rest when I fly with the window open, still building time!

I just realized my RANS S-7S now has 10 more hours TT than my T-Craft did when I bought it, 2744 hrs. I find that significant for some reason, but I also just realized I put 117 more hours on the T-Craft, so I have another 90 to go with the 7 to equal the much older planes time. The previous owners of the T were slackers.

No flying, but rather a live webinar at Maddens for MSPA and AOPA on amphib safety and the impossible turn. It was 45 deg and wind howling out of the east through the open air venue. The wind shot heat out the fireplace to the west, so there was a lot gathering at this spot!

and the fire went out as soon as Laura sat down!

Windy day in the mountains. Cruise speed ranged from 52-108 ktas. When they say avoid flying in the mountains with ridge top winds above 20kts that is good advice. Keeping a huge safety margin kept things tranquilo. The three condors we saw weren't bothered by the winds at all. Looked like Mom and Dad were giving Jr. some dual.Click image for larger version.

Last week poking around Tuxedni Bay after clam digging. Met some nice folks based out of Settlers Bay Strip (sorry forgot your names) and enjoyed the sun. Nice to have my kid fly me around for a change.
