Calm winds, blue skies and temps in the upper 60's so took my wife for her first ride in the J-3. Beautiful colors with some of the small grain already turning. After the flight I asked her what she thought of the Cub and she stated she liked the fact that she was up front and didn't have to stare at the back of my head as she has been doing since 1966. So as not to start a new trend this afternoon I took her for a ride on the Harley.:p

Was up early Friday morning and went for a quick flight with my favorite person in the world!

And then they predicted a derecho coming! So flew back to BRD and put the Cub in the hangar as a precaution. Got a bow echo storm, but didn't have the devastating winds and hail expected. Whew!

I did a quick crane job moving a 46,000 lb. container a couple feet on a trailer, so the truckers could get through the nearby port of entry. When it came time to get paid, turned out the truckers didn't have any Ben Franklins (as expected, I was just jamming them), so I called the guy who had requested my service, and he started to give me a CC #. But I noted his Wyoming area code, asked him where exactly he was, and he said Alpine. Done deal, next morning I flew over there for breakfast (been doing so for going on 40 years now, takes about as long as driving to an eatery in town) got fed, and got cash, plus was offered a float trip down the Snake but passed on that, looked too dangerous! The very next day, over flew an upcoming crane job in the mountains, never found it but had 1.9 hours of fun anyway. This week I'm doing a big job at a Flying J truck stop, replacing every roof top unit, the overhead pic I took last week will help us plan it out. The plane comes in handy, often, in my work, or at least I think it does. I've flown into 3 jobs this year, so far.

I forgot to add, while at Alpine, an X Cub flew in, and Alpine is supposed to be Husky country (Aviat is just down the road 30 miles)! The pilot said he cruises 135 mph at 10 GPH. His only "problem" has been, he has 4 other airplanes, and has only been able to put 40 hours on it in 2 years.

I got a maintain proficiency flight permit (we remain in lockdown in sunny South Africa with no beer or cigarettes for good measure - not that I smoke anyway) and took my J-5 for a sunset flight from Queenstown. Image1595743433.708707.jpgImage1595743460.743379.jpgImage1595743511.585064.jpg

Great trip to Eastern Oregon today with a buddy to look at a Stinson to buy. No pics, but experienced ground speeds from 29 to 120. The wind was, shall I say, influential.

We beat the heat yesterday morning and showed Justin a few more places he can land his Maule.

Hey Eddy Lewis, those are very interesting photos. Much different perspective of Monument Valley than usually seen.

Yes lots of really neat rock formations on the way down to monument valley. Some of those pictures are close to Bluff and Mexican Hat just northeast of Monument Valley.

The storms of last week are now passed and we are in the idyllic days of Summer. So went and got the Cub back in the water.

Cubus: clear, cool, low humidity days are the absolute best for float flight-seeing!!!

I would like to see a full description, tips, and some pix of your airplane lift. It looks well designed to hold a beautiful airplane.

Paul, I'll see if I can dig up some closer specific shots of the lift. It's a Sunstream hydraulic scissor lift. Needs to be in at least 5 feet of water in order to compress enough to let the airplane on and off. This one has a turntable, but I never use it. Just come into the dock, unload, position the airplane on the lift (easy) and hit the remote key fob for up. When leaving I load up on the lift, do engine check and then key fob for down. It's really easy to use.

I agree res this last week for flying! This was last night, Debbie and I were out on another lakes patrol.
