Where did you fly today?

Such a great afternoon playing around on lakes and swamps yesterday. I hoped to get out early and head to Lake George, but flat light kept me home. When the clouds lifted in the late afternoon, I jumped on the chance to put some things into practice that folks suggested last time I posted. Still totally new to ski flying, but damn, it sure is fun!

Saw a musher working his way through the trees, so figured out where he was heading and landed to watch him go by in silence.

Just a quick run to Kansas City for work followed by a sunset race to get back home...

Was looking like like I was going to take second for a bit but there was an extended twilight with the low cloud deck open to the West.

Flew over Flaming Gorge Dam and followed Green River to the confluence with the Yampa River at Steamboat Rock.

It's amazing how good a photograph a modern smart phone can take.
The person behind it does need to have a good eye though.

Had to go 18K to clear the tops today. I was solo, 20 gals and couldn't resist the urge to poke it up to 18.8K @ 29.92 for 20K GPS. Class A starts at 19K here. The O2 goes pretty fast up there. I probably needed to turn it up even more to get my heart rate back to normal. 10K slam dunk into SLCB at 7 DME.

Hey Ive learned to feel really fast at 80 kts [emoji6] I was just happy to get home to 75F and sunshine. Out in the mountains @ 12K maybe 45F with light rain. I think summer is over. I was jealous of this little guy, he looked warm and well prepared.20200311_104308.jpeg20200311_092803.jpeg

It has been a long time of snow, rain, snow, sleet, snow, one clear day, fog, snow, snow...

By the time I can get the runway plowed it would be dark, and then get more snow that night.

Today I got to go play. Lyn took a few pictures of my departure, snow pile is 12' tall all along the strip.

Sunny and bright today here. Most of the snow on the lakes has melted, leaving a polished surface. Gave some rides and generally enjoyed the sunny blue. (Spring is coming!)

Copper mine

Hey View attachment 47496 see your pics and now Copper mine. CYCO. I was there 4-5 times last week during my rotation on medivac. I saw the hanger and the yellow plane but today I put it all together , I met the ruler and his wife she was with him at work when we flew in. Maybe we can meet up one day , you must have some awesome country to fly in during the summer months

Coppermine River. The sun is coming back!

I've been dreaming of skiing the Tordrillos for years, so finally took the chance to check it out this past weekend. Only played around in the foothills, but it was still awesome! Unfortunately a friend had to turn around due to a problem with his airplane's ski, so ended up solo.

Hard to see, but this was the one good patch of soft snow in safe terrain that I found to ski. Had my eyes on some bigger lines in steeper terrain, but being alone I decided to play it safe.

Tons of terrain beckoning me back on my flight home. Can't wait for more!

The baby we helped with surgery in January had a little issue and thankfully the parents called right away. A neo-natal nurse volunteered for a 2 hour flight seeing trip with 30 mins of patient care in the middle. There are roads in this area but they are impassable right now due to heavy rains. Could have gone over the top but the pass was clear enough for safe VFR. Beautiful day for rainy season.20200316_090127.jpeg20200316_092202.jpeg20200316_080703.jpeg20200316_090331.jpeg20200316_094317.jpeg20200316_095812.jpeg

Went to the jungle today with a load for the other mission here. After unloading I thought I would shoot a few landings with one pax. It sure is a different airplane. Landing distance was about half of what I'm used to and takeoff less than half. After landing a sandbar next to the village it was hard to resist landing a bunch more. 20200318_084156.jpeg20200318_105122.jpeg20200318_105143.jpeg

You can probly hold out quite a while Brian with what you can cram into a supercub. Just remember every 2 cans of chili or pork and beans = 1/2 roll of 2 ply.

Yesterday did not suck. My boy really wanted to go flying on skis with me, so we went out and found some icebergs...and went sledding on them.

Not near as cool (get it, it WAS cool...) as that natural ice sculpture, but Brian's shot reminded me of this one I took a couple years ago. I know of 3 or 4 areas in Idaho with rock formations like these. Not cool at all, it was in the high 80's that day. Hard to see, but my plane is in the center.
