Where did you fly today?

IMG_6250.JPGIMG_6241.JPGIMG_6251.JPGIMG_6248.JPG

Ripped the -12 down some muddy water on the Red River yesterday. Had my favorite wingman with me too!
Just a blessed days bouncing around on the sand.
Especially at 65 degrees!

Beautiful place, fire trying to take its toll. Later in the day, flying to the fire in the smoke near sunset

Made a new friend at the airport several months ago when I saw him pull his 182 out of a hangar that had recently sold. It was just after lunch on a Sunday and we had our usual Sunday morning river run with lunch at Clayton's BBQ with a gaggle of Super Cubs. Jason asked me if I was one of those guys in the big tired airplanes and that he wanted to do that. Fast forward and now he owns Ron Massey's L21 former Spirit of New Holstein and he made his first gravel bar landing yesterday. We had 5 Cubs on the bar for our Sunday morning meeting of the minds.

I can just barely see the fresh needle tracks in his arms. Pretty soon a lighter and spoon will show up in his pics. He’s going to have so much fun he’ll forget about how much he has spent and is going to spend!;-)

Speaking of Ron Massey, how is he doing? Is he still with us? I first met Ron in the mid 90’s when I lived in Texas and had my Super Cub. Super guy!

Ron is good, stays busy riding motorcycles. Stops in from time to time between his travels to a from Dallas.

Steve.

I will be in the area around Sep 5th. If you allow spam cans, I would like to join your meeting of the minds. What time of the morning do you convene? I can take out the low hanging shrubs.

On my way to Arkanstol.

In the summer have been heading out at 7 am.

Took a friend from college out for some seaplane training. We had a blast!

Then after three days he was sufficently worn out and we went flying in the super cub!

Tells us about those fences on the flaps. Do they do anything? What is it? I tried a similar fence on my 185, it did nothing.

They were on there when I bought it, the flaps are also a deeper chord than stock. I have no idea if they're doing anything other than starting conversation :)
:)

Yes, on the Colorado. The water is pretty low this time of year. It is a dramatic area to fly around!

Brother camping.JPG Yesterday: Social Distancing in the Pacific. Closest thing to bush flying here.Brother Lucky Camp.JPGAnyone coming to visit this neighborhood, give me a shout, be happy to show you around.

They were a Cub Crafters experiment back when the Top Cub was starting as a project. I flew it a couple times several years ago (hydraulic flaps with dump button) but don't recall anything special other than it was well rigged and a delight to fly. Jim Richmond would know if there was any real benefit.

Storms last night, this morning and then a three - four hour window before the next one hits. This last one is supposed to be nasty so I scooted at 11:30 this morning and zinged out for the airport. Beat the converted Caravan in that is based on Wilson Bay, but he was hot on my heals.

A pretty turbulent ride, but hey, better than possible big holes in the wings.

The hydraulic flap system has been removed, and replaced with a standard handle now. I am curious what it would have been like with that system. I am flying into a lot of short stuff with it, and can see how the the dump button would have been nice.
