North East winter Fun 17/18

Looks like you guys have some beauty snow. You cant believe the crap we have now. Its dried concrete after 2.5 in rain and now below zero. All the brooks and streams and swamps are at flood stage Its almost unlandable. My wife though I lost my mind when I came home trying to find a semi smooth patch to plunk down in the cornfield. Rock solid with patchy areas of crust to flip bushwheels, So you cant fly skis without tearing the gear off, and minefields for bushwheels. Looks like the snowgods take care of the just

Jim

They Suck. Worse here, runway is grass with 2ft snow drifts that are rock solid and soft at the same time

Went out last weekend to check out the ice jams and flew into lake carmi which is close to the dairy center. Had about 6-8” of fresh snow with no overflow. Since then we have gotten another 2 inches.

Spent this afternoon in the Champlain Valley hopscotching from one lake to another along route 30 south. Not much snow but plenty of good ice.

Walked on Dunmore last weekend, 14 inches in the south end, almost no snow. Bet those Twin Otters are flying alot higher than we tend to. Got my new rear window in yesterday. Just need to bleed my new double caliper brakes.

Perhaps breakfast up north tomorrow might be in order to overcome your sadness. I also understand that there might have been some ski testing also going on in the Petersburg area. Will have to wait on the results

Well, we threw in the towel this morning after seeing windshear warnings at 2000 feet, and 40-90 winds from 2k-4K feet. Ground winds seemed nearly calm.

But I needed to adjust the prop anyhow, so there was reason to get up. Jake joined me for a short excursion around the neighborhood.

I also canceled going north but things died down about 11 for awhile and I got together with some friends. Even saw Dan Bull’s old 12 come out of sick bay with a few new parts.

Seboomook on the north end of Moosehead lake. Smooth but just like a rock.

You have been taught well "Grasshopper"
Winter crop land patrol is an operational expense, be sure to send your fuel receipt down to Florida for reimbursement and continue to have fun!

Here in Shoreham I went out on my new 22 smoothies yesterday. Couldn't test my new brakes with all the wet snow, I think I could have taken off just as quick with the brakes locked. Dunmore looked whiter than a week ago, didn't persue. When I dragged the lake, people didn't wave, but phones came up. Is that a thing now?
