North East winter Fun 17/18

Don't be a party pooper Tom. John is aware. ;)
Yep found out 20 minutes ago. Good thing I spent the day putting on the skis. You are all welcome here or let me know if we are headed to Silver Lake I assume 11:30 or so. Jim you and Andy want to stop here I will get my fuel bags filled with non ethanol.
please let me know the plan so we can plan for you.

Jim posted above he's shooting for 11. If you can arrive early and pave the way with the locals by bringing them hot cookies, it may help?

I’m down in ma, so no cookies have to get Home in the morning and warm the airplane

Just so you know, Silver lake is in a bit of hole. Route 12 from the north climbs up to the lake, but the other sides descend down to the lake.

Thx John. Will figure it out in am. Are 100ll pump at Plymouth accessible? I know they don't plow in winter. I will steal JPR fuel bags to use as well.

Jim

Jim no 100ll in Plymouth. You are best to go to Parlin. I can also take my fuel bags and land and bring you fuel.

Winds Forecast is NW 5-10 in Barnard tomorrow. Might be a bit sporty going in if it’s swirling around the hills.

I might meet you guys down there tomorrow, trying to talk the wife into it. And for those looking for fuel, middlebury has fuel with a card reader but I’m not sure about landing with skis

Edit: A big thanks to Dave Lenart for the suggestion and impetus for this locale. And for coming to meet us by sled!

John,

Heater :
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01KLSC77O?psc=1&ref=yo_pop_mb_pd

6”reducers, 2, Lowe’s :
https://m.lowes.com/pd/IMPERIAL-6-in-dia-x-4-in-dia-Duct-Reducer/1000230231

4”x 96” duct, Lowe’s :
https://m.lowes.com/pd/Lambro-4-in-x-96-in-Foil-Flexible-Duct/3266293

I cut 3 small rectangle connector tabs from aluminum mount the reducers on the heater. Rivet to the reducer and use existing screws in the heater to fasten on.

Heater has thermostat and hi/low heat settings. Thermostat not labeled but tests show to have a 10 degree on/off range. Dial set about 10 o’clock on mine provides a 40-50 degree oil temp reading on the panel gauge.

You guys are awesome!, big hit in Barnard. Thanks for coming. Laura and I rode another 80 miles after, don't think my thumbs will ever thaw out.

Thought this was fun so I’d share with you.

I was flipping through some logs and saw the one from yesterday, where 40M and I were playing in the snow before meeting the guys for lunch at Lake Desolation.

It strikes me that Skis in a northeast winter must be like bushwheels in Utah. Landing areas are everywhere and smiles per mile skyrocket.

My phone frozen in the cold, so no pix. Andy and I had a good time catching up. 5.3 flight hours for a sandwich with great friends. Seems like a good deal to me.

Jim

Edit: Wingman Andy got a couple pix
