Pawnee pics

I've known Mike for years, he & his crew do awesome work.
Mike's paint work esp is top notch.
I saw your PA 12 parked over there yesterday, Charlie,
and saw some Pawnee tailfeathers already covered and waiting for stitching.

FWIW I volunteer at the museum front desk one morning a week.
We're open wed through sunday, 9am - 4pm.
Admission is $10, $9 for sr's & active military, $6 age 7-12, 6 & under free.
25% off for groups of 10 or more.
It's a great place for an outing with your buddies, local pilots association, EAA chapter, car or motorcycle club, Boy or Girl Scout troop, etc.
The Spruce Goose Café is on the field & is a popular "hundred dollar hamburger" destination.

For those already familiar with the place, but maybe not up to date on things,
Mike took over from the founder as director about a year & a half ago,
and the founder & his wife recently resigned from the board of trustees.
There have been some changes in attitude & direction along with these personnel changes.

They must have improved over the years. A friend had them do his Stinson wings and I refused to put them on the aircraft.

While taking a tour around the Sound last summer we dropped in for a visit in July. Took a little back tracking, but once we got on the right trail to the airport it was well worth finding..!
I’d been hauled through enough old buildings and such during the summer, it was fun hanging with some cool airplanes for awhile..!

I bet there is more to this story, there is not to much that goes out of their shop that is not perfect. Jim

Yeah, he was a friend of the director, traded some parts for the wings to be covered. They came to me and were no where near airworthy. None of the seams were right, overlaps were too small, terrible looking mess. I had one guy walk in the shop and see them across a 60' hangar and say, "you're not going to put those on looking like that are you?" The customer ate the extra to have them covered right. Like I say, sounds like they've improved since then.

Curious how long ago that was?
And what model Stinson?

Looking pretty good! I am picking it up next week.

I like the flat wingtips, I'm curious as to who the mfr was?

They are not flat. It is just the memorex that makes them look that way.

They’re owner built flat tips with a 337. I tried having them put on Dakota wing tips but they didn’t fit. I am going to going to take a closer look at them when I get the airplane back.

I haven’t seen the airplane yet just pics.

The flat tips look better than the Dakotas IMHO.

There's a 1939 J-3 in the hangar next to mine. It's a flying museum piece that looks like it rolled out of the factory yesterday. He said the work was done by the Port Townsend Aero Museum.

As far as I'm concerned they're covering my plane. It's down to price and schedule.

Now that his Pawnee is done, ask Charlie.
IMHO it turned out beautiful.

I’ll be out to pick it up Sunday. The pictures look good! I’ll report back on it though.

Well we picked up the Pawnee and it looks really good! I would recommend Port Townsend Aero Museum over anyone else in the NW. They did a really good job for a reasonable price.
