2017 East TN late fall fly-in. Oct 27-29

One of the last fly-ins of the year. Everyone is welcome. Don't need to be a member of EAA or this chapter. My involvement will be much less due to personal crisissssss, but I still hope to attend. Information below is pretty much a copy and paste from last year.

Will be held at another private strip just northeast of Dunlap, TN. The strip is about 2500 ft of nice and level grass. A line of pine trees on the east side provide some wind block but can also cause some wind shifts.

Here are the coordinates: 35°26'01.1"N 85°20'35.3"W OR 35.433639, -85.343139. This airport is not on sectional. Please DO NOT land at Matthews airport (TN89).

This is the approach from the NE looking SW. You can see there is a set of power lines several thousand feet before the start of the runway. These are not in the path of a normal descent so DON'T HIT THEM. Use left traffic here for uniformity and to stay inside power lines.

This is the approach from the SW looking NE. There is somewhat higher terrain on this side. There are also a good bit of livestock under this photo it would nice to be a polite neighbor here. Left Traffic for this runway and a close in appoach keeps you away from the slightly higher terrain and keeps a normal glidepath and away from the livestock.

Everyone is invited. You do not need to be a member to come. There will probably be a small fee to cover costs for camping. Pets that are good around people and planes are welcome.

Food will be provided: Each meal will be between $5 to $10 depending on how fancy the meal is. You will need to email eaa1560@gmail.com if you plan to attend so we can plan meal amounts.

Updates will most likely be on the Facebook page. You do not have to have a Facebook account to view. I will try to update everything.

A nice fly-out for lunch Saturday would be the Just fly-in over at Brasstown Field. The Just/Planefunaircraft event is that weekend.

Chris, I'm planning to attend by car (regrettably!). Looking forward to seeing you again after, what, at least seven years. Hoping to meet more Volunteers and get the lowdown on local cubs for sale.

The weather is not cooperating. Last weekend drank all the nice weather juice.

Jody, our host, will still be there for anyone that wants to drive in. Bring warm clothes and we will sit by the fire.

The weather should clear by noon Saturday. We will serve lunch for those that do come over. Bring a few bucks to cover cost of food.

I'm planning on getting there Saturday after the rain with my family.

Speedo, the only cub I know for sale is my J-3.

Well this weekend was a complete loss. I met Jody for lunch and we cooked hamburgers and hotdogs. Weather permitting, we are probably going to get together next weekend. Seems like so much work to go to waste. If anyone wants to join us, come on over.

Chris, did you fly up or drive up? The Wx between Knoxville and Dunlap was bum, even for driving down!

Next weekend sounds like a great idea.

I just drove. The only VFR was between the valley walls below 1000 AGL.

Thanks for the interest. I just called Jody and he decided the weather was too unpredictable for tomorrow. I wanted to do the Winchester breakfast but I think that'll be fogged out.

So. to all. Fly-in cancelled again. We'll try for the spring or next fall.
