Kiwi restoration

Yeah do that. If you hear someone looking for a project a friend who is rebuilding a T7 Auster has imported a whole lot of NOS ex RCAF Auster spares. Included is a MK 6 Auster airframe which he wants to sell.

Help needed. We have had the fuselage sandblasted and have found some corrosion at the base of the upright on the right hand side where the rear door pin locks in. It was in behind the U channel. I have found on here that this is not uncommon but can't find any pictures of how to repair it. Has anyone had this issue and have some advise? Many thanks

If it is just above the longeron cut it off at the longeron and splice using a tube in a tube splice above where you have good tubing. Check the longeron for pitting where the tube intersected it. I will look for a picture.

Measure the length from the longeron to the wing attach fitting for reference if you are not working in a jig. Cut out the bad part of the tube and blast the area of the longeron that is corroded. Get the sand out of the tube and if it isn't too bad sut a patch out of a size bigger tube and weld over it. If too much is gone you will have to splice the longeron as well which is going to involve the rear receptical for the door look pin. Look up weld repairs, splicing by inner sleeve method in AC43.13.

You may want to take all the other u channels off around the door, and clean and prime them. If you’re careful you can reuse them

Thanks Steve. Will dig in and see what it's like.

You can go all the way to the rear wing attach fitting. Only did that on this one because we replaced the whole top deck.

UPDATE:
Hi all. After a long break of working on the cub due to many reasons we have recently been making some progress. Unfortunately a few months ago we lost our 3rd partner due to a brain aneurism so now the motivation is high to get it finished in his memory.
The fuse has been sandblasted and a couple of rust repairs made and painted. We decided to stay original and made some new wooden stringers. A new floor has been made, brake master cylinders have been rebuilt and installed. Fuel valve refurbished and new fuel lines made. Rudder and brake pedals powder coated and installed. Trim system refurbed and installed. Next on the list is wiring, undercarriage and interior panels.
