A friend of mine took a bullet through his right wing in his Cub last night about 3 mi. NE of Wolf Lake......disturbing. Investigation ongoing.
He was 600' above the ground straight and level, heading from my airstrip to Palmer. Entry bullet hole just outboard of right wing tank and exit was just aft of the leading edge between the VG's. 3' to the left and he would have been a smoking hole.Makes one wonder what the plane was up to, and what the folks on the ground were doing (hiding?).
How did the pilot know where it happened? I wouldn't think he'd have heard or felt anything, and likely wouldn't have seen a hole from the pilot seat. Just curious.

. . . . alcohol was suspected to be involved.

I talked to my friend last night and there is nothing to base that statement on unless you know something I don't. Sure it's easy to take a stab in the dark and say that it must be some crazy drunk on the ground that did this but as of yet there is no real development that I know of that would support your wild guess of events. To be clear, there is no sinister back story drama with this pilot or what he was doing. We live in an area where there are many private strips in close proximity to one another. This pilot was doing we all do around here. He was just going between strips visiting friends when this happened.
