    Annoying spacebar issue

Folks using google chrome may have noticed that sometimes when you start typing in the quick reply box, the space key does not work. This is a "bug" in the way Chrome works with vBulletin.

    There are two work arounds

    1. In quick reply, hit the enter key once and space will start working.

    2. Post in "advanced" (go advanced button) as it does not have this problem.

Chrome is still my browser of choice, but it is an irritating thing.

Yep! Thanks Steve. I'd found the workaround, but am glad it's not just me or my 'puter - - -

Me too. I automatically blame me.

    What is the "advanced button"?

I automatically blame SJ for all my computer issues like he blames me for all his broken airplane issues.

If I have one piece of computer usage advice, don't assume that you are the problem. Yes, sometimes ignorance (meaning lack of knowledge) and the blissful state that it leaves us in is part of the problem, but frankly, bad user experience is not a long term acceptable state these days - and there are many things that can cause little problems like this. Sadly, Googling sometimes leads to millions of the same question with no answer - we have an expectation that "somebody" will answer one of those questions so we can get our "stuff" fixed.

Many people don't realize that these questions are often answered by average Joe's (and Josephine's) who spend time trying to figure out little problems like this one for others - because they enjoy the challenge, much like a puzzle.

In this case it is "figured out", but we are still working to find a good solution.

All of this to say "never hesitate" when you think something is awry with supercub.org. I prefer contact through the "contact us" link rather than the PM system, but either work!

    sj

P.S. I did not have the problem on this post and I used quick reply. Go figger!

I will say one thing sj, If it weren't for you providing us with this great resource known as supercub.org there would be a large number of us being uninformed about the little tricks that show up here daily. I for one thank you.

I came here to check-in and see if there has been any progress on the problem. "Reply With Quote" on this forum is the only place I see the this problem.

This is not going to get fixed anytime soon - if ever. The problem is that a component of vBulletin (CkEditor) is not compatible with new browsers - especially Chrome. The 4.x vBulletin software we are using we feel is still better than their 5.x version which has been out for a while, but involves a bit of a learning curve. For now we will have to live with this issue until we decide to upgrade to 5.x (not in any hurry as are tons of other sites). If you press "enter" before you start your sentence you won't see the problem

I am still watching for a clever patch for this.

I pressed enter 3 times and it works fine.

Good know. Sounds like a reasonable plan of action.

    Thanks!
