    Topo landowner overlay on 796

Anybody ever use the onXmaps from huntinggpsmaps.com SD cards in a 796? They are img files and garmin said they should work. If they work in the 796 they should work in my buddies g3x. They list landowners property as you fly over. Cards are purchased by state. Looks to me like it will work. I've got a card coming to test.

Steve, I've not used on a 796 but like the idea.

Regularly use use on my handheld and am often disappointed in the amount of private land where they don't have ownership info.

Helpful but but not great but they do keep adding data each year.

Kyle, do you use the brand of card I mentioned above? It will be towards the third week of September before I can report results.

My brother had it for Montana Hunting. When we hunted along the Yellowstone Park Border you can see the Park boundary lines. Keeps you out of jail.
His handheld unit was a Garmin thats all I remember.

Yep - OnXmaps. Uses a micro SD card.

Have experience with NM, MT and CO use. Good but not yet great. To their credit they do regular updates. First one is free, next is $30.

Have the HuntingGPS Alaska Card, not all the info is there, but a suprising amount for the size of the state. They can only get data for counties and cities that have digitized their records, a lot of areas haven't so obviously it makes it difficult to cover everywhere. I find it really helpful.

I was not able to overlay it on my Aera 500 but use it on a handheld Garmin.

Well I just tested it on the 796. It comes as a mini SD with the SD card you can plug it into. GarmIn said it should work on any gps that can take a SD card or mini SD. Going to test it on the g3x later this week. Just put SD card in the 796 and go to map page. It doesn't show up until you zoom in to the 5 mile distance. I zoomed it in to 200'. As you fly just touch the screen and it usually pops up the topo contour altitude. Hit the arrow button to the right and it shows you the landowner. Keep hitting it to right to find out deer area, elk area. Etc. it's awesome. Shows me I'm trespassing a lot. the iPhone app version shows tax roll addresses too.

Sasquatch. Does the 500 take a SD or mini card. If it does try zooming in and see if it works.

    They have many different states.

Here I just scrolled the screen up and touched the screen. You can see it put the landowner on the page. The straight lines are property boundaries and the curvy lines are the topo. Its pretty cool.
