NEW SHOCK CUB: Congratulations to Pasquale Russo for producing what looks to be a VERY interesting plane for those who love STOL. It appears there will be various engine options up to 180 hp.

Several videos on YouTube.

Don't get too excited. Copied aircraft from overseas
no presents at SunNFun or anywhere else that I can tell. Plenty of US Cubs, Rans, Superstol
available with lots of well know history. So they took a Rans S-7 design a while back and now they've just copied Superstol's gear. Really innovative.

Several videos? There might be 2. And if they're targeting the STOL pilots of
the USA or Canada they need a video in English or French.

Yes, several; that would be 3 as of now. I'd be a little bit patient, this is just out. However there is performance data and an English translation on the Zlin Aviation website although it is so far only for the 100 hp engine. One person, 18 mph stall.

How can you not be excited if your a STOL fan? Yes, this is a new model, but they have a lot of planes flying and are not new comers. This model has very little similarity to an S-7. The shock design does go way back to STORCH, so what? I also like the Superstol, it's all good.

It is NOT necessary to turn this thread negative. Enjoy flying and enjoy the ever increasing interest and options in STOL.

83k for the base model and for another 56k U.S. you horsepower freaks can have a Titan 180hp.

I really like this new project and would like to share some comments.I was present even at some test flights and it is ridiculous how the plane can manage ultra-slow speeds.Never seen something similar. I wanted to buy a Super Stol in the next future but now no change sorry (Super Stol in kit complete of everything costs here almost the same as a Shock Cub ready to fly and needs 1000 hours to be putted togheter ). I fly with a Savage Cub in Europe as many other hundreds of customers here and the reputation seems pretty good (not 100% good since they are always always always late in the delivery!! ) and from what I know, Zlin alone sold around the world more Savage than Legend Cub, Cub Crafter, Rans registered LSA putted all togheter... This plane , is completely new, new airfoil, new wings, (much much stronger),new super efficient flap system (have you noticed it?), new stronger fuselage, and reading details on their webpages, all the tricks used by the real "bush planes" and TOP pilots have been introduced this time. For sure for someone, not only in this Forum, this is not an innovative design but I would ask myself, are Carbon Cub, Legend Cub, Super Stol, Rans design a copy of something else or an innovative design ?I see some "small similarities" for example between a Legend Cub/Cub Crafter and and a real, old, mythic SC do you?;-) How many American copies of SCub are there then? I remember at least 6/7 names...
There was, years ago an experimental American white Maule for example, using the shock absorbers for first (you can find pics in this Forum) , well before that Super Stol introduced them 3 years ago . So who copied whom in this Stol community?I think that Zlin was off course inspired by the Super Stol landing gear as Glacier Cub (Breeden Cub ) too right? in Aviation everyone copy the others and the problem is not to copy or not someone else, but to "do it better" if you copy or if you inspire yourself, this is the only way to get progress from one formula, adding own ideas, concepts and mix them togheter.....and sorry but really this time this product is not comparable with any any Rans S/7 around or even with my now old, Savage Cub .It is simply placed in another league! So I don't blame the company too much and still I am sure this is quite an innovative product. At the end the problem is not to know who invented the wheel but to find the product that fits with our own desires right?Probably Filser Storch was the first plane to introduce some Stol, really "Stol" concepts so the credits should go ALL there for all the planes mentioned here...and many American Companies today, should thank Piper (still American) to have invented the Cub ..Is this perhaps not true? I know this is not an American product and so nothing (for you) to be proud, but sure is not rubbish or a bad plane. From my point of view, knowing the company and their approach to this nich market, you will read a lot in the future about the new "Shock" since actually before that Rans or someone else will copy them this time, this is unique in the market and has not any competitor in the real Hyper Stol performances arena since this is tandem seating, Cub alike design, that can land in less than 15 mt with no wind (I have seen with my eyes) and many of the potential customers here will never buy a side by side plane "kit" for the same price tag (Super Stol offers only kits right?)...At least here and in many other Areas of the world this will work, since I am sure they sold many many Shock in the last month.Probably not in USA but I don't think they based their marketing and production plans only thinking to USA and world is big enough..Just my 2 cents of course.
I will order mine as soon as I will find the funds and am super happy for this arrival in the market..and rumors says that Alaska will see this plane soon..and sorry if I putted down my opinions but this time after almost 10 years I read all you, it was really impossible not to write something.

Thanks for your informed post. I say informed because you have actually seen the plane. I agree there will be a lot of news about the SHOCK Cub in the months to follow. To do something like this with the myriad details, testing, and to bring it to market is a big undertaking. I think quite a few pilots are going to have a ton of fun. Again, congratulations to Mr. Russo.

Good points. Send a Shock Cub to SunNFun or a show like it.
We'd could look it over, and watch it perform. Thanks,

Outback Shock in the USA

Thanks for your informed post. I say informed because you have actually seen the plane. I agree there will be a lot of news about the SHOCK Cub in the months to follow. To do something like this with the myriad details, testing, and to bring it to market is a big undertaking. I think quite a few pilots are going to have a ton of fun. I want to post a comment but should include a bit of disclaimer. We are the US distributor for Savage aircraft. Soon we will announce an Alaskan dealer to handle the great white north area. Now a bit of background.

The name 'Cub' can not be used in the US because that name (proven to my attorneys) is owned in the US by another cub-like manufacturer who asked us to stop using the word "Cub" or the "lightning side mark" typically painted on cub-like aircraft. We have complied and worked with the FAA to properly id the Savage Cub in the US as the Savage Outback. So, in the US the 'Shock Cub' will be known as the 'Outback Shock'.

For the past 1.5 years we have worked with Savage to improve and take their aircraft to a new level of engineering and performance. The result of Pasquale's frantic life of the past year is the Shock Cub. Yes, it's development was influenced by all previous bush aircraft from around the world. But, it is a copy of none!

I was also present, and flew, the Shock Cub during the testing phase. To say I was impressed is too simple. I ordered 4 on the same day. Testing and data gathering continues; we will provide specific performance on the US Outback Shock after we receive our first aircraft just prior to our presentation at Oshkosh Airventure. The Outback will initially only be available as a ready to fly aircraft; in a year we intend to have a build center established for kit aircraft.

Trying to not sound like a commercial. Questions can be addressed directly to me: bill@sportair.aero

I met Bill at his facility in Little Rock, Arkansas a few yrs. ago and then again at a Florida air show. He went out of his way to show my brother and I around and answer a ton of questions I had about the Savage planes. Good guy.

Bill, I wish you every success with the Outback Shock in the USA. I suspect you'll sell a lot more than four...

It's like having to pay to sing "Happy Birthday"

I'm not sure how anybody can legally claim to own a paint scheme, but the "Cub" name I can understand. It would be like somebody building a new 1/2 ton truck and calling it an F-150.

I suspect it is in public domain and only the threat of legal action gives some pause. Otherwise other manufacturers wouldn't use it and it could not even be used by anyone in any way including URLs such as this site and in fact every time anyone uses the word "Cub" they might have to add "TM" or "R".

Paint schemes/designs can also be copyrighted/trademarked, but generally that expires after a number of years and it also reverts to public domain. May also be colour specific.

Most attorneys would NOT be able to give an expert opinion on this matter; you would have to go to a specialist for a better answer.

I'll add that there have been thousands of uses of "Cub" that have not been challenged, and that further weakens the argument that "Cub" isn't in public domain.

Go to ebay and type in cub in a search and 1960s Honda moterscooters will magical appear
