    Ultimate floatplane build?

Starting a build on a PA18A-150, looking for advice on what would make the ultimate floatplane, engine? Mods? Staying certified not experimental.
the aircraft will be used for fishing and moose hunting.
    floats and skis mainly,

    thanks

Extended wings, with ailerons moved out to the tips and extended flaps. Borer prop. Other than that, keep it light and simple. What floats are you planning?

Sell it and buy a Beaver. You don't have to modify them, you rarely have to worry about being over-gross, you can bring 3 friends along to help pack out the moose, and they can be bought for less than many 18 restorations--certainly less than new Husky.

Gross weight increase, 180hp, and a belly pod to help keep the CG where you want it for best performance.

Leave the battery aft to assist with CG control.

Probably edo 2000's, I was thinking Dakota slotted wings, who has the stc for extended wings, moving the aileron out and longer flaps?

    thanks

I have a friend that has built 9 or 10 180hp supercubs on anphibs all with Dakota ext wings with the 90" flap and aileron moved out. One plane has the slots and is not recommended by him for the floats, it's just extra weight and dose not help at the AOA that a float plane flys. The regular extend wing and the big flap is highly recommend by him for floats, I've been kicking the idea around just don't know if I want the extra weight.

I don't know how the certification project is going. Once it is completed this IS the way to go. http://www.performancestol.com/ Loose the slats and use the double slotted flaps for a float plane. Looong flaps with the aileron moved to the tip with a squared tip gives excellent float performance without slats and/or VGs.

Dakota has stock wings, and squared off wings (extended flaps with ailerons moved out to the tip) you can get it with or with out slats.

agree with buy a beaver if you want a heavy hauler
if you want performance think light light light light light
    consider O340 180HP
    reconsider going expermental
as others have said slats don't do much for a float plane AOL
    VGs under the tail feathers

You specified floats only, so this is for FLOAT plane ops, hunting mode: lots of gear getting carried most of the time.

big engine. Can you get more power? do it!

    Flat prop

extended wings with extended control/flap surfaces. Need all the roll you can get.

Thrust line if it works on your cub

    VG's

Dakota wings with slots is not a bad idea, even on floats. It might not help the float landing and taking off distance, but will keep you in the air in gusty situations you will have in hunting applications.

    CF aft baggage, light interior

    metal belly

as little else in the plane as you can get away with!

Get Aerocetts with hatches for loads and performance, skip the pod that way
I don't know where you've been me lad, but I see you won first Prize!
