    Lock Haven 1937

I bought some old photos/drawings from Lock Haven and Bradford off ebay in the late 1930s. Paid $7.30 for all of them. Got them from a guy who's Dad worked for Piper starting in 1937 and for the next 43 years.

On the third photo it says Flivver plane. Not a flattering quote. Wonder if the meaning has changed some since then.

"Flivver" is probably referring to the Model T car as a comparison. Easy to drive, cheap to buy, and gave convenient transportation to thousands of people.

Baloney is still baloney, no matter how thin you slice it.

If your looking at the photo of all the Cubs parked and look in the background you will see 3 houses. The guy I got the photos from grew up in the middle house. I also learned that when Piper bought the silk mill property in Lock Haven it came with 10 company houses, in the aerial shot of the airport and mill you can see the 10 houses just east of the mill building.

A friend of mine use to own a 1960 C-172. We found an old picture of the Cessna factory from 1960 with lines of C-172's parked just after coming off the assembly line. Sure enough there was his airplane, brand new, and probably hadn't even flown yet, was pretty kewl.
