Airports requiring taxi on an active runway?

I have landed on hundreds, but just don't remember which ones. If you are aware of any, could you post them here? Thanks.

In Ontario... Lake Simcoe Regional, Midland, Collingwood, Parry Sound... and most others around here. Hard enough to clear land for a runway, they sure aren't spending money on installing and paving taxi ways.

Were they "active" runways when cleared to taxi upon..? or just runways not necessary in use..? Don't know if that even matters.....

Ontario Calif. has at times back taxied on one of the runways. Chicago Midway sometimes uses the shorter runways to taxi on. PVR in Mexico does it.

    What's your question for...?

We (FedEx) do it occasionally in Memphis on runway 27 during the outbound AM launch. I also recently did at KSAT and KSWF.

Need those where it is essential to taxi on a runway, as in back taxi because there is no taxiway to that end of the runway.

Reason - we have had a perfectly good runway shut down because the controllers say they cannot handle simultaneous taxi and arrival/departure traffic. Wait times for our only runway have been as long as 45 minutes. It is killing us.

We have a new tower chief, and need to show that it is being done at other locations, both controlled and uncontrolled.

    Boston? Really?

There are dozens if not more airports out there which have NO taxiway, thus requiring taxi back, or taxi out. That tower chief needs a wake up call.

Those are the ones I want. You guys make the search easy. Thank you.

I also asked the controllers - with one exception, they all said "look it up yourself, jerk". They are usually a helpful bunch.

Airports requiring taxi on an active runway?

KORH Worcester, MA. requires back taxi landing 29 or departing 11. These are the main runways. Towered, has JetBlue flights and have had some other scheduled ops over the years.

KLEB Lebanon NH. Landing 18 (long) departing 36 full length require back taxi. 18 has the ILS. Towered airport. Fairly busy.
KCON Concord, NH. landing 12 departing 30 requires back taxi. This is a crosswind runway. Non-towered. No scheduled ops but a good amount of corp jet traffic.
KISQ Manistique, MI effectively has no taxiways. Non-towered. Not busy. Not a great place to get stuck, but you can taxi down the street to the hotel.

At the three airports I have been a controller I have used the runways to taxi on, at one point or another.
    BVI - Beaver County Airport
    IAH - Bush Intercontinental
ANC/LHD - Anchorage / Lake Hood (I'm cheating on this one since I'm a dark lander in the radar room and venture out to visit the sun worshipers on occasion.)

Now as a common practice? Sitka requires a back taxi and until the new taxiway was completed at Ketchikan, they too required it. They back taxi at Kuparuk, Dillingham, Dutch Harbor, etc.

The airport on St. Maarten in the Caribbean requires back taxiing, plenty of scheduled departures and arrivals, including 747's.

34R, ELA, and DKR are uncontrolled airports here in Texas I can think of off the top of my head that require back taxiing.

Sunriver S21 requires back taxi for full length.

I bet if you pulled out a facilities directory you could show them hundreds in a matter of minutes.

The state of Tennessee has 79 air ports and 33 of them don't have taxi ways and there are some that have partial taxi ways on half the runway.

The problem is that in addition to the controller handbook, every controlled airport has a local manual which is approved at the regional level. These guys are most likely complying with the local manual. Until that is changed their hands are as tied as yours.
