Flew that Jet for thirteen years. Nothing does close air support better. The grunt on the ground loved to see us show up.

Wow Eddie, you da' man. From what I've heard that thing is like a jet propelled Supercub with guns. Thank you for your contribution to our freedoms. Far more than I can say for our "leadership".

It is a very stable and forgiving platform from which to break things and blow shitz up!

After watching the boyz from Syracuse demonstrate them it would be my pick of anything in our inventory. They used to " play " in the little valleys by my house trying to hide from the boys at Griffiss.

Damn cool video. Brought back a lot of memories of the era and my Uncles off to war and my Dad getting ready to go. I guess all of us Cub pilots tend to have a soft spot for the A-1 and the A-10. Our kind of planes.

When I was a young Lt, we had a few Captains around that flew it.

The VNAF A-1 drivers were also good, really good. They practically hand delivered their ordnance. And then there's the Navy type from VA-25 that shot down a MiG http://vnafmamn.com/Skyraider_vs_MIG17.html while flying an A-1, and http://theaviationist.com/2015/01/14...amese-mig-17s/

One of my all time favorite aviation books is , My Secret War, by Richard Drury. It is about flying the A1 Skyraider "Spad" in SE Asia and the Sandy search and rescue role. Great read by a guy that truly just loved flying.

Here is a story about one of those Those Captains.. He flew the AT28 which is a lot like the Spad. Talk about brass balls!

Back to the Hog. Steve Phillis was a mate of mine at England AFB. He lost his life during Desert Storm trying to protect his downed wingman. No greater love has a man.

    His nickname, callsign was Syph.
