    Pa-12 needs fabric

I bought a 1947 Pa-12 3 years ago knowing that the fabric didn't have to much life left(was done in 1994 and never hangered)This is my first plane and when I bought it I thought that I would sell it before the fabric had to be done. Problem.... Love my 12. Can't imagine selling it. But Thinking about recovering just worried about hidden costs. When I bought it, it just came out of annual where they found corrosion on the tail. Repaired with super cub tail. How do I now that the corrosion stopped there? What other hidden cost to expect? Should I sell and put the $$$$ cost of the fabric towards another plane? Any suggestions? Thanks Tyler

Expect to find lots of things that must be repaired and many things you want to change/improve/enhance. Plan for a big bill; it could be double the cost of the cover job alone.

There is an old thread on this subject that you may be able to find with the help of Google. It included lots of comments from people who faced situations similar to yours, so it may be instructive.

Lots of planes flying around with fabric older than 20 years. I good inspection should tell you if you have any serious problems. Once you cut the fabric off it snowballs from there. If you blast the frame you will usually find some corrosion. Then there are all the "well while we are here we might as wel...", modifications etc.
