10 Character Post Limit - Why is that?

Why is there a 10 character _minimum_ post limit? Why am I not allowed to just give a good ol' fashioned emoticon affirmation and subscribe to a thread?

Sorry, that was a smart aleck (my mom's term for me) comment. It is a common trait of spammer types to make a bunch of short posts so they can get better ratings and then start posting links to stuff, not too applicable here, sort of a hold over. It has gotten the quiet types to talk more...

Sorry, just asking. This is the first vBulletin forum I've seen that has implemented this - it seems unusual. No matter - I'll just blabber more.

Ya, it's too much for me too. I don't like to talk that much. So I have to keep typing useless stuff to meet the 10 character rule. I feel discriminated against, think I'll call Seaworthy.

I liked Steve's first answer. LOL...Brought back memories of a time when the kids were still at home and asking why they had to do something.

    It's actually the default setting.
