P40 discovered in Sahara desert

These are always very interesting stories. I can only imagine what it was like trying to walk out of the desert. The original article said they are going to do a sweep of the area to search for the remains.

That's fascinating and amazing it sat there unnoticed since the 1940's.

Hope we can learn the rest of the story. Reminds me of The Lady Be Good--B-24 found in Lybia. I believe I was in high school when it was found. Poor guys died an agonizing death. God bless our veterans.

L-21 is more affordable for fuel...

We have an old WWII P-40 instructor still alive here... Laytton Bennett, a true legend.

There's a flight of four P-40's at the bottom of Lake Sentani in Papua, indonesia.

Now that is cool!!!

I grew up over there, yeah I wish someone would go get them. Unfortunatley you always have to deal with the government and everyone has their hand out in one way or another. On one of my visits out there I helped a little with getting the MAAM Black Widow off the mountain a few miles from there they had major hasseles getting that airplane out of the country.

Wow, look how the wind has eroded the paint away from the fuselage.....

The pilot can't be far. It would be nice to return him home. But for the fate of history it could have been one of us. So many of these young men were lost to ensure that our lives would be free from the oppression of an evil and insane regime.
