I'd be interested to hear about the escape, especially the 3rd seat.
Is 170’ a standard/typical hoist height for winch recovery’s of personnel? Not knowing anything about SAR helicopter techniques, is this a best height for wind/buffeting effects, vision, etc, or is there something I’m missing?

Here's a little mishap from last sunday near my airport.
Airplane is totaled but other than a cut on his hand the pilot was unscathed.
The fire dept spokesman told the newspaper that he avoided injury by performing "a classic pilot maneuver"
in wrapping his airplane around that tree.
Where do they get this stuff?

Didn’t know Canadian SAR did parachute jumps as normal course of rescue action.

Pretty much standard for the fixed wing SAR community.
trees are your friends, big springs that absorbs the energy.... little hard on the equipment...
That's interesting. From reading the story I was wondering why they didn't drop off another battery or whatever it was that kept him from starting the plane.
2 planes helicoptered into birchwood today, from north.... anyone whats the story??? related?
Not sure why. The FAA was all over it when they showed up. They even ramped the Northern Pioneer helicopter when it landed
oh, will probably show up in tomorrows report... it's dates are listed by when ENTERED into database, not when event occurred...
Still don't see the Lake George event on NTSB site.
