    Pre-purchase inspection in Anchorage?

    Hi,

My airplane search continues. Can any of you recommend an experienced Super Cub mechanic to do a pre-purchase inspection in Anchorage? Please PM me if you are not comfortable replying publically.

    Thank you,

    SP

I don't know Dave - I'm sure he's good. Because I've met him and I have a good sense of his depth of knowledge I'd ask Mike Skupniewitz to do a pre-buy for me.

sorry I'm off airport..... I just do rebuilds and such....

    dave is good.

you should pick whoever you intend to do your annuals, and PAY them to do a FULL annual Inspection if things are looking good on the first look, before you buy it..... you want to find everything before you own it and end up paying for it yourself at first annual....

never liked those drive by prebuys, what purpose do they serve you!?

Mike hit the nail on the head, a thorough buyers inspection is an annual inspection without the servicing.
You might as well pay a few more bucks and have the mechanic sign off the annual inspection.
Make this clear with all partys involved before the inspection day comes, then everyone is on the the same page.

I would put in a good word for Dave as well, he knows cubs and won't steer you wrong. Good luck in your hunt!

I had Gene Zerkel at Alaska Aircraft Sales do my pre-buy this summer. The airplane was at Lake Hood so it was very convenient. If you are financing, be sure you find out the requirements as my credit union would only take an appraisal from a member of the National Aircraft Appraisers Association. The price seemed reasonable and although it took a little longer than I would have liked, he was very, very thorough, to include copious amounts of photos and documentation.

As far as appraisals go, be sure and get someone who is Super Cub savvy. Saw a newer rebuild with new fuselage, low time engine and all the right mods appraised for what a lot of the original 70s SCs are selling for. Luckily they got hooked up with an appraiser that knows Cubs and got an accurate appraisal. It is a little harder to borrow money these days.
