I posted this video last year, if you are new or have not seen it, it gives you an idea as to what goes into the making of the calendar.

Hey SJ,
I'd like to get a custom calendar built for the BC Floatplane Ass. I know I can get cheap $$ calendars w/generic pix, but can you tell me about how much it would cost to get 500+ calendars made with pix submitted by us??
Thanks

Logan,

I'll send you some info via email. Quantity makes a huge difference. We have enough quantity know that we can run them on offset litho which yields the best quality. The break point is probably around 1000 to be able to do that - 500 would probably be run digital - although we used to run this calendar digital for a number of years.

Having grown up around commercial printing and spent time working in a print shop I know how much work you guys put into the calendar. I am however surprised that your shop doesn't do it's own bindery is there a reason for this? Oh and nice Heidelberg, the pressmen I used to work for would have killed to have something like that...

We have a very sophisticated automated cutting system as we print 4 billion pet food labels a year (alpo, crispier, fancy feast, etc) and a lot of greeting cards. We are more of a manufacturing fulfillment operation than a traditional printer. We have nine of those Heidelbergs, two of them are 5 over 5 like the one that runs the calendar. We do do some other work but so little that requires finishing that we sold our bindery equipment about 5 years ago.
