Landing with a broken snow ski in the Susitna Valley

"Honey, here's a story about LaVelle Betz", I said.

"I just about ran over her yesterday", my wife replied.

I've known both Dick and Lavelle since the 70's. They're both a kick in the pants. The lake they are on was surveyed in '74 and dad bought the first lots sold. They of course had a homestead which I think dates back to '54. While i was not there that day, my dad was and remembers this incident.
I used to enjoy watching Dick land in the Kahiltna, dodging rocks and beach his Cub on the sandbar at the mouth of Peters Creek. The whole lake has changed since the late 90's. We have a special lake in that the only diamond find ever in Alaska occurred just off the north end.
