tach cable

On the end of the cable that goes to the engine there is a felt washer, does this seal the oil in. Oil is seeping out around the end. I tried to find the felt washer but can't, maybe I just make one. Thoughts.

The seal in the end of the tach drive should seal the oil. I had this discussion with a fellow mechanic a few weeks ago about the washer. Not sure about it's purpose.

Maybe to keep dirt from getting in the housing?
