You might tell him to try Kenmore Air Harbor, Washington State. They have a pretty big crew, and pilots. Worth a try.

    Hey guys,
I'm looking for a flying job for next summer, 2014. I currently have around 350 total hours and hope to get close to 500 by the summer. I am finishing up both commercial and instrument ratings and hope to have a multi and possibly a SES rating by the summer. About 300 hours of my total time is tailwheel time, in a cessna 140 and piper cubs and pawnees. I am currently enrolled in college, so I would only be available from mid-May to mid-August. Although I'm located in New Hampshire, I'm looking mostly at Alaskan and Pacific Northwestern operators. With 500 hours I should have enough time for SIC part 135 IFR, or PIC part 135 VFR. Please PM me if you have any contacts or know of any places that I should look into. Thanks!

    Get your Multi...

Then try Ace and other freight folks out of Anchorage.

Then also look at the carriers out of Bethel area. Insurance does not like 500 hour pilots any more, but don't give up.

Being here to apply can be half the battle.
I don't know where you've been me lad, but I see you won first Prize!

ACE seems to be changing their hiring criteria: their next SIC ground school is made up of guys with >3,500 TT, >1,000 multi turbine, and loads of instrument time. I think they are trying to get out of the bottom. Unfortunately, none of the Bethel operations will look at an applicant that is available only in the summer months: they run their ground schools in the spring and spend the late spring/early summer doing check rides and IOE. Most of the seasonal specialists like TAT, K2, Rust's, Taquan, Promech, etc start their classes in late April or early May, and want a guy to be there for the full season. So I think AK might be a long shot as a pilot, but possibly you could work a dock or a ramp.

It will be difficult to find a flying position for such a brief period. Have you considered a loader position with an ag outfit? With your A&P you might be especially desirable, and your summer recess overlaps a good chunk of the spray season. Contact Rob on BCP.org: he seems to have a pretty good handle on 137 operations nationally.

How about drop zones? They sometimes advertise on climbto350. You could get ahead of the game by contacting drop zones now, well in advance of their summertime busy season. I think this could be another instance where your A&P would make you especially attractive.

Best of luck - it can be a bit of a scramble! Once you finish school you will find it easier.
