My son gave me this girl 4 years ago. She came from a sawmill across The Inlet from Anchorage while he was working on a film crew there for three months, born the day he arrived and took with the day he left.
I would really like to thank the lady who gave her to our family, and tell her what a great fearless dog she is, and how she took charge last fall when a sow with cub charged his girlfriend at close range.
This dog lives to hunt bears, she's half karelian, not sure what the other half is...but we got the good half...
If anyone has an idea who the lady might be that was care taking or living at a mill somewhere over by Pt MacKenzie please PM me.
I made the mistake of holding onto her leash while on a mountain bike about the same time she decided to go bear hunting. I didn't know what she was up to, but I didn't want her to be on a leash in bear country for fear that she'd get tangled in brush while dealing with a bear, so I kept holding on. Next thing I knew I was bouncing through the potholes on a mountain bike unable to let go, and unable to see with the tears streaming down my face because of the speed of the air and bugs hitting my eyeballs for the better part of a mile until she caught up with the crazy thing. It dived off the road and so did she, I went sideways over the handlebars, landed on my feet, still didn't see it until the brown bear stood up out of the brush and looked down at me! Powerful, fast dog! Scary fast!
