    Dan,

If I was trying to stay over the sagebrush and as low as possible I would go NW out of BIL to Judith Gap then on to Great Falls then depending on weather you could either follow highway 200 over Rogers Pass [5610] or you could go NW past Conrad and hit Highway 2 then follow it
over Maris Pass [5280] and into Kalispell, either way your over prairie country or a highway all the way. It been wicked hot here so real early would make for alot better ride.

    12 G,

Yep, as agpilot says, either one of those routes will keep him over the lowest terrain around, plus over a highway.

Polson is about 50 north of Missoula, where Roger's Pass (200) terminates, and the highway 2 route dumps you out around Kalispell, so about 30 or so north of Polson.

Ive made that trip a bunch of times. I go from Billings to just north of the Crazy Mountains, cut over to Townsend, up to Helena, jump the hill just west of Helena into a big valley and that takes you to Seeley Lake, take the notch in the mountains just west of there and turn right and your in Polson.

Thanks a bunch for the replies. He is an old no-radio guy so will just have to give the control areas some elbow room. Thanks again--Geezer Dan.
